In His Majestic Service

In His Majestic Service

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. (Romans 12: 4-8)

Do you know your own spiritual gifts? Are you using them for the best of the body of Christ? There are a lot of ways we can be in His Majestic Service, God’s own special agents in this cold world. If you are interested in finding out your own spiritual gifts, there are a lot online assessment tools and books available. Discover your spiritual abilities and then build up the body of Christ!

Each person’s gifts are different but everybody is needed to build up the body! Together we are strong and able to function by the grace of God. The key here is to use God-given talents to God’s glory. If we are to be in his majestic service, we need to check the selfish goals at the door. The different gifts and abilities are equal. There is no need to compare gifts. In some sense all comparing is a Devil’s attempt to get us quarreling. In God we are equal. In Christ we are not only God’s servants but also his heirs and we are called to co-labor for the kingdom of God!

If God’s children were shoes, there would be needs for big hiking boots as well as for fancy red Sunday shoes. If we were created to be fancy red shoes but would like to work on hiking trails, we would be destined to fail. Or if we were created to wear hiking boots but would insist fitting in fancy red shoes, we would feel miserable. It is important to learn who we are in Christ and for what purposes we were created. There is no other better assessment tool than prayer! We are called to discern our calling in God’s presence. God is faithful and will guide us in this process.

Paul lists a few different serving opportunities: prophecy, serving, teaching, encouragement, generosity, leadership and kindness. Whether we were called to teach or preach or for practical ministry, we will be enabled to work for His Majestic Service by grace of God. We can also be certain that God will bless as we serve the body of Christ with our gifts and abilities.

Gracious God,
Thank you for calling us
and equipping us to work
in Your Majestic Service.
Thank you for going before us,
preparing our tasks for us.
Help us to function as one body.
Guide us to find our gifts
and our place in your Kingdom.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
