Receiving the Grace of Christ – Amazing Race or Amazing Grace?

Receiving the Grace of Christ – Amazing Race or Amazing Grace?

Is receiving the grace of Christ an amazing race or amazing grace? It is a relief to know it does not require to be the winner of the amazing race to receive the grace of Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn the grace of Christ. It is the amazing gift from God; it is amazing grace.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.(Eph. 2:4-10)

If it is free for all, how can I receive it? That’s really simple. Whether it is your first time or 10000th time, you ask God to forgive you for the sake of Jesus Christ and you will receive grace upon grace! It’s important to remember that receiving grace is not the end of the story. God has invited each and every one of us to live in faith and grow in grace. There is nothing we can do to make us more pleasing or acceptable to God but we can return God’s love by loving him back by responding to his invitation to join him in the amazing race to win the whole world for Jesus!

We can start our amazing race knowing that God has already made us all winners of the grand prize: AMAZING GRACE. The amazing race begins when we have been made right with God. We have been created in Jesus Christ to do good works. God has prepared our adventures and good works in advance. God is calling us for an adventure in Jesus Christ: to love, to serve, to share.

Receiving the grace of Christ enables us to succesfully race the amazing adventures God has planned and prepared for us. Receiving the grace of Christ starts the process of bearing spirtual fruit in our lives. Receiving the grace of Christ surprises us again and again. Go God!

Gracious God,
Thank you for your amazing grace!
Thank you that we are not saved by works but by your grace.
Save us through faith, Give us your grace.
Enable us to work for you.
Help us to race an amazing race for you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. In our obsessive concern with hurrying through life, what a great reminder that salvation is not gained by winning a race but is a free gift of God's amazing grace! Even the race we then run with Jesus in response then doesn't have to be all rush-rush-rush, because "race" is just a metaphor for our journey with Jesus through life — more about perseverance than speed.

    Great words, M-A!
