Driving Around with Grace

Driving Around with Grace

When I moved to Minnesota to teach at Concordia College, Moorhead I purchased a shiny white car that I dubbed Grace. I felt it would be wonderful to drive around with Grace because grace was the best thing I knew. I heartily agreed with John the Baptist testifying “From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.“(John 1:16-17, NIV).

Grace enabled me to drive around the States. I drove three times to the West Coast and back. I saw breath-taking sceneries, experienced exhilarating adventures and was blessed by meeting fascinating people. It all felt like grace of God. Because when you have been saved by grace through Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells in you and wants to send you out to the world! “So don’t you see that we don’t owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There’s nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!” (Romans 8:12-14, MSG). God is calling us to drive around with his wild grace. God is calling us to live our lives according to his will powered by his grace.

Driving around with grace does not mean there wouldn’t be any questioning clouds on the horizon. Life is life. There are always decisions to make, new challenges to tackle, another mountain to climb. But when we are driving around with grace we know that God is on the driving seat. When grace has filled us we know that God is always with us. When grace is our reality nothing can push us away from God. When grace is our best friend there is nothing to fear. In my book, there isn’t a better way to live your life than driving around with grace. You never know where God will guide you. There are breath-taking sceneries to see, exhilarating adventures to experience and fascinating people to meet. You might end up at the other side of the world but you might stay very close to your home. But you can be sure that your life will never be dull when you are driving around with grace.

God bless you! Go! The Spirit of God is beckoning! Godspeed!!

Gracious God,
Thank you for your amazing grace!!
Fill us with your Spirit!
Give us courage to follow you wherever you lead us.
Give us your grace to live according to your will.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Q4U: I would love to hear from you! What is your grace story?

Be blessed!
