Surrender

Surrender

It’s Melodic Monday! Today’s song is 4Him‘s Surrender (Mark Harris & Brent Bourgeois). As we contemplate on the powerful message of the resurrection we might find ourselves struggling with surrendering ourselves to God. If God went through so much trouble to get us saved, shouldn’t we obey with a willing heart? 4Him gives us a boost what real surrender looks like:

I could hold on to who I am
And never let go and find your heart

But what would I gain

My life would be in vain

And I could head down a thousand roads
Just going my way out on my own

But I wouldn’t get far

’cause I need You more than anything

More and more than the air I breathe

I lift my hands
I lift my heart

I surrender

I’m letting go

Falling into You

I surrender

You are the maker of all things
The giver of all I’ll ever need

And I’m so amazed

You would live inside of me

Come and live inside of me

Mold and make me with Your fire
And consume me with Your love

Until Your will is my desire

All that I have and hold on to
Surrender

All that I am I give to You

I give to You

We can choose to go the other way. We can choose to do our own thing. But it’s good to count the costs of such living. Galatians 6:6-8, MSG warns us this way:
Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.

Sure, we all want to harvest a crop of real life. But life is not always easy. But what to do then? We are to pray. If our hearts are not ready to submit, not ready to surrender we need to pray. Because then God can work his wonders in our lives. Because then God can show us what he has for us.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. (Phil 4:5-6, MSG)

So often we think that WE have to do this and that. WE need to ready ourselves to the Lord. WE need to be so holy. WE need to do this and that. No, we only need to go to GOD with prayer. We only need to respond to GOD’s invitation. We only need to let GOD know what’s worrying us. We don’t need to displace the worry from our lives, GOD will do that after we pray. GOD will ready our hearts to surrender. WE can’t do that. It’s all GOD’s work in us. Let us pray:

Gracious God,
We need you so much!
We need you SO MUCH!
Come and live in us,
Come and renew us.
Help us to surrender to you.
Clean what needs to be cleansed.
Burn what needs to be burned.
All that I am I give to you.
Thy will be done.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
