Brave

Brave

It’s Melodic Monday! This week’s song is Brave by Nichole Nordeman. This song reminds us how important it is to have reality checks how we are doing with our Christian walk. We need to see if we’re still on the chosen path. It’s so easy to wander off the path without even realizing it. We need to keep on staying close to God, abiding in the Holy Spirit and following closely in Christ’s footsteps. We can’t make it on our own and we are not even meant to make it on our own. God knows us inside and out, he knows what we need on our journey and he knows what we need to successfully serve him. So, the best advice we can get is “stay close to the source” and “be brave and bold in your response to God”!So long, status quo!

The gate is wide
The road is paved in moderation
The crowd is kind and quick to pull you in
Welcome to the middle ground
It’s safe and sound and
Until now it’s where I’ve been

Cuz it’s been fear
That ties me down to everything
But it’s been love, Your love
That cuts the strings

So long, status quo
I think I’ve just let go
You make me wanna be brave
The way it always was
It’s no longer good enough
You make me wanna be brave
Brave, brave

I am small
And I speak when I’m spoken to
But I am willing to risk it all
I say Your name
Just Your name, and I’m ready to jump
Even ready to fall

Why did I
Take this vow of compromise?
Why did I
Try to keep it all inside?

I’ve never known a fire that didn’t begin with a flame
And every storm will start with just a drop of rain
But if You believe in me
That changes everything

Gracious God,
We praise you and we thank you for your lovingkindness.
That you don’t give up on us
That you keep teaching us
how to be your followers,
how to love our neighbors far and near,
how to serve our brothers and sisters
who are hungry, cold and alone.

Let us not be satisfied just by giving money,
help us to give the work of our heads
and the love of our hearts.
Help us to move against the grain.

Disturb us, Risen Christ,
when we are too well pleased with ourselves,
when our dreams have come true
because we dreamed too little,
and we have arrived safely
because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Risen Christ,
when with the abundance of things we possess,
we have lost our thirst for the water of life
and the bread of heaven.

Stir us, Risen Christ, to dare more boldly,
to venture on wider seas
where storms will show your mastery,
wherein losing sight of land we shall find the stars.

We ask you to push outward the horizons of our hope,
and to push us into the future
in strength, courage, hope, and love.

We ask blessings to those
who are hungry, cold and alone today.
We ask for your peace, your justice.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen
