My Own Little World

My Own Little World

It’s Melodic Monday! Today’s song is My Own Little World by Matthew West. This songs continues to assure us that it really does matter what we do with our lives. Life is not about us. It’s about God! Here’s an excellent quote by Henri Nouwen that has been speaking to me lately (I know I already quoted it on Saturday but it fits here so perfectly):”We seldom realize fully that we are sent to fulfil God-given tasks. We act as if we were simply dropped down in creation and have to decide to entertain ourselves until we die. But we were sent into the world by God, just as Jesus was. Once we start living our lives with that conviction, we will soon know what we were sent to do.” You are called to do God-given tasks. Find out what’s yours and go! Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God!

In my own little world it hardly ever rains
I’ve never gone hungry or always felt safe
I got some money in my pocket shoes on my feet
In my own little world
Population me

I try to stay awake through the Sunday morning church
I throw a twenty in the plate but I never give ’til it hurts
and I turn off the news when I don’t like what I see
it’s easy to do when it’s
population me

What if there’s a bigger picture
what if I’m missing out
What if there’s a greater purpose
I could be living right now

outside my own little world
Stopped at the red light, looked out my window
Outside the car, saw a sign, said “Help this homeless widow”
Just above this sign was the face of a human

I thought to myself, “God, what have I been doing?”
So I rolled down my window and I looked her in the eye
Oh how many times have I just passed her by
I gave her some money then I drove on through
in my own little world there’s
Population two

What if there’s a bigger picture
what if I’m missing out
What if there’s a greater purpose
I could be living right now
outside my own little world
Start breaking my heart for what breaks Yours
give me open hands and open doors
put Your light in my eyes and let me see
that my own little world is not about me

Gracious God,
Thank you for creating us to live in relationship with you.
Thank you for showing us the Jesus way back to you.
Guide us to discern what is our God-given tasks.
Empower us to reach out to the world as directed by you.
Train us to live, love and work in your grace.
In Jesus’ name,

Q4U: What’s your God-given task? how are you reaching out to the world?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you are searching your way out of your own little world. God is calling your name, guiding you step by step. God is worth of following!
