Treasures to Cherish – In Memoriam Harvey Stalwick

Treasures to Cherish – In Memoriam Harvey Stalwick

The news on the death of Harvey Stalwick – a dear colleague, mentor, and friend – has left me weeping. Sure, I know he is in a much better place. But I mourn the loss all the same. I mourn that he did not get to enjoy his retirement. I mourn that there is one less great man on this earth. Tears keep on coming and I realize that I am a much better person because of him. I know that thousands and thousands of students, colleagues, and many other people have been greatly touched by his life. For that I give thanks to God. I thank God for Harvey. I thank God that I had a privilege to work with him for three years. I thank God that He made Harvey the way he was.
Harvey will always be a hero of mine. A saint whose example of living to the fullest and making a difference by serving will always inspire me and so many others. It is time, friends, to step up to the plate. It’s our turn! It’s our turn to serve Christ humbly like Harvey. It’s our turn to work hard for the common good without taking the credit. It’s our turn to make a difference in this world. It is our turn. Are you ready? Only with Christ can we burn as brightly as Harvey did. But we do owe that for him. SOLI DEO GLORIA!
Rest in peace, Harvey. Godspeed! See you at Jesus’ feet! Love you, miss you! Thank you for everything!
Gracious God,
We bring our broken hearts to you.
Comfort us, heal us, and mend our hearts.
We give thanks to you for Harvey’s life.
Enable us to follow his lead in following you
with our whole hearts, minds, hands, souls, and lives.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Q4U: If you knew Harvey…feel free to share your favorite stories of him. How did he touch your life? How has he encouraged you to make a difference? What are your treasures to cherish? Thank you!
God bless you, my fellow pilgrims! We can make a difference. What you do with your life does count. And remember: this life is not everything there is. Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”(John 11:25-26, NIV)
