God is holy. What does it mean? Holy in Hebrew, qadosh, literally means “to be set apart”. So God is something else! God is distinct from anything and everything. God is totally different from us. God is holy!
“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.”
(Isaiah 55: 8-9, MSG)
God is also thrice holy. This thought captured me right away. Yes, God is indeed thrice holy: The Holy Father, The Holy Son, The Holy Spirit. God was holy, God is holy, God will always be holy.
Who can fail to fear you, God,
give glory to your Name?
Because you and you only are holy,
all nations will come and worship you,
because they see your judgments are right.
(Revelation 15:4, MSG)
We are called to imitate and reflect God’s holiness. We are “to be set apart”, too. We can’t keep on doing what we used to do when we did not know God.
Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.” (1 Peter 1: 14-16, MSG)
Holiness is not our doing. But we need to let the Holy Spirit pull us into living in grace, into a way of life shaped by God. How exciting is that, a life energetic and blazing with holiness! I want that!
We adore you!
We praise you!
We want to be like you.
Create in us a clean heart.
Create in us the right spirit.
Pull us into a way of life shaped by you.
May your will happen in our lives.
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: How do you view God’s holiness?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you imitate and reflect God’s holiness in your life! You are not alone! The holy God is with you wherever you go! How exciting is that!
