God is calling us to a radical life-change. Are you ready? Because “God is kind, but he’s not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change.” (Romans 2:4, MSG) We are called to be followers of Jesus Christ. Not just fans that keep on doing whatever they wish. Where are you in your walk? Are you a fan of Jesus or are you ready to really follow whatever the cost?
This week I read about a new book that sounds very interesting. It’s written by Kyle Idleman and it’s called: Not a Fan: Becoming a Completely Committed Follower of Jesus. According to the Christian Post article about the book fans don’t mind a bit of touch up work, but Jesus wants a complete renovation. A radical life-change. Are you ready for radical living?
One of the symptoms of a fan is to think that s/he is a follower. How then can we know if we really are followers? Have you ever done something for Christ that make people say ‘that’s crazy’? That’s radical living. That’s being a follower of Christ.
Don’t fool yourself. Don’t think that you can be wise merely by being up-to-date with the times. Be God’s fool—that’s the path to true wisdom. What the world calls smart, God calls stupid. It’s written in Scripture,
He exposes the chicanery of the chic.
The Master sees through the smoke screens
of the know-it-alls.
(1 Cor. 3: 18-20, MSG)
Does that make you uncomfortable? That’s okay. God wants to tell you something. Listen, obey and you will be blessed. Or does that affirm your way of life? Great. God has new things in store for you. Radical living for Christ will not leave you without blessings. Radical living for Christ does not leave you short-changed. Radical living for Christ will give your life meaning, purpose, and direction.
God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go! This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him! (Romans 8: 14-17, MSG)
Wake us up if we are merely
sleep-walking through life.
Open our ears to hear and
eyes to see your will for us.
Teach us how to be radical for you.
Guide us clearly!
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: What is your story of following Jesus?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you dare to be a radical follower of Christ!
