This Hannah Whitall Smith quote from The Christian’s Secret for Happy Life has always inspired me to truly live out my faith: “Most Christians understand the principle when it comes to salvation but lose sight of it in living Christian life. Then He was our Redeemer; now He is to be our Life”
What does it take to live out Christian faith? We need and we want salvation. But how Christ can be our Life? First of all, we need to remember that faith is a gift from God. We have been created by God Almighty. We have been claimed by Christ. But too often we forget that we have also been called by the Holy Spirit to go out in the world and share God’s love with others. Living out our faith is letting Christ become our Life. When Christ is our Life things start to happen.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph. 2:8-10, MSG)
Christ does not push us around and force us to do stuff. We need to invite Him in our hearts. Jesus is more than happy to do so. But He will never be forceful. He respects us way too much. We need to keep on re-inviting Him if we are serious about having a living relationship with him. That’s just like between humans. If you want to keep your friends, you need to spend some time with them. Only that God will never let go of his end of the covenant no matter of what.
God delights in becoming our Life. This total surrender scares some of us. Jesus does not just want a part of our lives. He wants all of it. But when we surrender every aspect of our lives to Jesus we are truly alive. Then God sends us to do good works, which He has prepared in advance for us to do. We are called to bear witness and fruit for God Almighty. Let’s go!
Thank you for your saving grace and abundant love.
Renew our faith!
Restore our spirit!
Fill us with you love!
Come and be our Life!
Show us how to bear witness and fruit for you!
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: What kind of thoughts and feelings do you have about surrendering all your life to Jesus?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim as you let Christ to be your life!
