Bringing Out the God-Colors in the World

Bringing Out the God-Colors in the World

You all know how much I love the Word of God. I just love being surprised over and over again. I adore how something just jumps out to me. No other book compares to the Bible. It is the living and active word of God here and now. No matter how many times you have read the Bible it always stirs new things. This morning I was caught up with this particular passage in Matthew 5:

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.(Matthew 5: 14-16, MSG)

It’s the familiar passage about being the salt and the light in the world. I’ve always liked it, agreed with it and tried to apply it into my life. But today…. this Message version just opened up something new to me.

“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.”

My heart started to sing “yes, yes, yes!” That’s indeed our calling! God created a colorful, beautiful world for us to enjoy. But unfortunately sin alters all the hues of the rainbow into a dull, grayish existence. We are to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world! The real colors of fun, joy and love are found in God alone. All the forced productions of fun, joy and love leave us in yucky-colored muck.

The only way out of the colorless existence is through Jesus. We are called to shine God’s light to bring out the God-colors in the world. Because life with the God-colors is beautiful. It is meant to be enjoyed, shared and cherished. God is not to be kept secret. We are to keep open house, to be generous with our God-colorful lives!

What does this mean in my life, in your life? This needs to be explored in prayer. God will show us how we can splash some color into the colorless world. How exciting! God calls us to be his co-workers in creating and revealing God-created beauty in this world! I am in. How about you?

Gracious God,
We praise you for all the vibrant colors you’ve created.
Thank you for giving us meaning, purpose and direction.
How do you want us to bring out the God-colors in the world?
Show each and every one of us how to shine for you.
Enable us to be generous, loving and radiant.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
