Why I Believe in Jesus

Why I Believe in Jesus

Sometimes people ask me “Why should I believe in Jesus?” or “What’s so special about Jesus?” Or they ask “Do we really need Jesus?” or “Couldn’t we just be nice? Or choose whatever would suit us best?” The one thing they are all asking “Is there power in the name of Jesus?” Let’s find out!

The whole concept of God is abstract until we meet Jesus. Because Jesus is God with us. What sets Jesus apart from any other teacher or prophet is exactly this. Jesus is God. He said that himself many times “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:6, NIV)

But that’s not the only Bible verse that says Jesus is the only way to God. Listen to Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, boldly preaching:

By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the One you killed on a cross, the One God raised from the dead, by means of his name this man stands before you healthy and whole. Jesus is ‘the stone you masons threw out, which is now the cornerstone.’ Salvation comes no other way; no other name has been or will be given to us by which we can be saved, only this one.” (Acts 4: 10-12, MSG, emphasis added)

Jesus literally means “God saves”. Jesus is the code. Jesus is the name. Jesus is all we need. But we do need Jesus. We can’t get on our own to heaven. Not even if we were super nice.

I need to emphasize, friends, that our natural, earthy lives don’t in themselves lead us by their very nature into the kingdom of God. Their very “nature” is to die, so how could they “naturally” end up in the Life kingdom? (1 Cor. 15: 50, MSG, emphasis added)

There indeed is power in the name of Jesus. Nothing or no one else can save us. But Jesus can. But only Jesus. That’s why Jesus is the name above all other names.

When we believe in Jesus, we are saved by grace.
When we live in Jesus, we have a place in God’s heart.
When we die in Jesus, we will live forever.

That’s why I believe in Jesus. He is my rock of salvation. In Christ alone my hope is found!

Gracious God,
Thank you for JESUS!
Thank you for saving us!
Thank you for becoming yourself
our way,
our truth,
our life.
Be praised forever and ever!
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen

Q4U: Do you have difficulties accepting that Jesus is the only way to God? Have you experienced the power in the name of Jesus?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you live, move, and have your being in Jesus!
