What’s Most Important?

What’s Most Important?

This is not a trick question. But by answering it you will realize whether your life has the right perspective or not. What is most important today?

It’s not finishing your Christmas shopping. It’s not clearing your to-do list (even if it is full of good and holy deeds). It’s not championing your life, either.

The most important thing is to abide in God and feel his loving presence.

God loves you and you need to abide in Him. If you stay in Him you are doing well. Rushing around and worrying does not do any good. But staying on God’s joy does. Jesus was sent to the world so everyone could feel God’s peace and live in it. Life is not meant to be spent in stress. “Come to me and I give you rest” applies to the Advent season, too.

So stop rushing around. Breath in the peace of God, breath out the worries. Life is good now. Christmas will be good even when everything is not perfect. When in life everything is perfect anyway? The most important thing in life is to abide in Christ and rejoice. Everything else is just details, as they say. Everything else is just details.

You, LORD my God!
   You’ve done so many things—
   your wonderful deeds
   and your plans for us—
no one can compare with you!
   If I were to proclaim
and talk about all of them,
      they would be too numerous
      to count!
(Psalm 40:5, CEB)

Nothing compares to God. Nothing. So let’s not let “nothings” consume our thoughts, our hearts, and our lives. Because nothing compares to God. Let’s let the main thing to be the main thing. Today, this advent, this Christmas. And tomorrow, the new year, and forevermore.

Gracious God,
We bring you our worries
and our to-do lists.
Help us to set our priorities right.
Let us feel your calming presence.
Be with us as we go about our lives.
Always abide in us.
Bring forth joy in us.
Because nothing compares to you.
There is none like you.
Be praised forevermore!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. You are so right.  I have noticed such a difference in my attitude for my day when I start it with God, abiding in Him.

  2. Hmmm, things in my life that compete with Jesus? Oh, yeah, me! Sigh.

Really cute header by the way. I love how it looks like a painting.

  3. Perfect for my Planner Page to do for today (and everyday:The most important thing is to abide in God and feel his loving presence. Thank you for the sweetly succinct point. I will have to check out the Bible. Would love a chance to win!
