A Spiritual Check-Up

A Spiritual Check-Up

Lent is a perfect time to get an annual spiritual check-up.
How is your hearing?
How is your vision?
How is your spiritual heart-beat?
Are you doing OK?

“Look! I’m standing at the door and knocking. If any hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to be with them, and will have dinner with them, and they will have dinner with me. ” (Rev. 3:20 CEB)

Jesus is knocking.
Can you hear him?
Or is your life too noisy?

Jesus is knocking.
Will you open the door?
Or are you too busy?

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”(Matthew 11:27-30, MSG)

Can you hear him now?
Then, open the door!
Your Savior is waiting for you!

Gracious God,
Thank you for knocking on our doors.
Thank you for calling our names.
Thank you for offering us yourself.
Help us to recover our lives with you.
Show us how to take a real rest.
Teach us the unforced rhythms of grace.
Teach us to live freely and lightly.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. God’s mercy & love are what keeps me going through Jesus Christ my Lord. Prayers are answered maybe not when we want, but in God’s time & He is always on time never late.

  2. I love how the Message’s version of Mt. 11:27-30 says, “Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” That is beautiful, isn’t it?  God doesn’t force Himself on us.  He is a gentleman and “knocks at the door.”  But then, when we let Him in, we enjoy the rhythms of grace…like beautiful music!  What a joy!

    Blessings, Joan

  3. I am in a season of learning to rest. So thankful that God loves his children enough to discipline with the occasional time-out.

    1. God never sends out weary children. To them He says “Come to me and I give you rest”. When we learn to live in the rhythms of grace, taking rest when it’s time to rest and work when we are rested, life becomes lighter. All because of grace. Restful blessings to you, fellow pilgrim. Thank you for sharing!

  4. I am a pretty new subscriber, and I am loving your posts!!
