Too often we just let life happen and we wander without thinking, even without praying. But then we are in danger to get where the flow takes us and not where we want to go.
We need to put our faith in action. Because faith is not a sentiment, it is a call for action. We need to start our days by praying for guidance, for wisdom, for direction, for strength.
Tommy Barnett explains “I’ve discovered it is not sufficient simply to try to take time for quietness but that I must, with all diligence, make time. Whatever keeps me from prayer, solitude, and the Bible, however good it appears, is my enemy if I am to be God’s devoted friend and follower.”
On the day I cried out, you answered me.
You encouraged me with inner strength.
(Psalm 138:3, CEB)
Whenever I am in deep trouble,
you make me live again;
you send your power
against my enemies’ wrath;
you save me with your strong hand.
The LORD will do all this for my sake.
(Psalm 138, 7-8, CEB)
We really can’t produce faith. We can’t empower ourselves. But God gives us faith. God empowers us. God’s spirit does everything in and through us. That’s why it is so important to refuel ourselves every day. We are nothing apart from God. Once we have (re)grounded our life in Jesus Christ we are ready to go on with our lives. We are ready to bring our faith into action.
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd. (Hebrews 11:1-2, MSG, emphasis added)
Faith is a gift from God. And that gift makes life worth living. Faith in God gives our lives meaning, purpose, joy, and hope. Faith opens up the future, we can boldly move on because we know the One who holds the future.
When we are focused on God and strengthened by the Spirit we can by an act of faith…
… tackle whatever is thrown our way.
… follow Christ in everything we do.
… be bold in our callings.
And our lives will never lack of meaning and purpose again.
Because faith is an adventure in God.
Because we find ourselves in God.
Because everything comes together in God.
Help us to take our faith seriously
and put it in action.
Don’t let us waste our lives.
Give us courage to act by faith.
Fill us with your Spirit!
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: What have you done by an act of faith? How are you going to live out your faith today?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim! Be bold! Be Strong! The Lord our God is with you!Pin It
