Memory Traces of God?

Memory Traces of God?

Do you have engrams, memory traces, of God? Has God touched you in such a way that there’s been a physical alteration in your living neural system? I hope so. Just like the men who fought along Saul: Along with him went courageous men whose hearts God had touched. (1 Sam. 10:26, CEB)

When we have been touched by God, we are marked by God for good.
When we have experienced God’s love and grace,
our brains will always carry sweet memory traces of God.
When we have been touched by God,
our spiritual eyes open to see who God really is and who we really are.
And suddenly this relationship with God changes everything.

God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him! (Romans 8:16-17, MSG)

The world does not understand why we are ready to do anything for God.
They don’t have engrams of God.
The world does not understand why are willing to obey God.
They don’t have memory traces of God.
The world does not understand why we insist God is the best thing that has ever happened to us.
They have not been touched by God.

“I will ask the Father, and he will send another Companion, who will be with you forever. This Companion is the Spirit of Truth, whom the world can’t receive because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be with you. “I won’t leave you as orphans. I will come to you. Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live too. On that day you will know that I am in my Father, you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them loves me. Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.” (John 14:16-21, CEB)

How can you become a person whose heart has God touched?
Pray, invite God into your heart.
How can you be marked by God?
Pray, embrace His grace.
How can you have memory traces of God?
Pray, abide in Him.

Gracious God,
We come to you in awe of you.
You are so much beyond our understanding.
You have always been and you will always be.
You are mighty and powerful.
Yet you love us dearly.
Be praised forever and ever.
Come and abide in our hearts.
Bind us to you with thousands of engrams!
Mark ourselves to you forever!
Carve your name into our hearts!
So that we would live and move only in you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. I have been touched by God. He is consistently and constantly at work in me – loving me, guiding me, correcting me.

God rescued me from physical and spiritual death. I was at the end of my despair – He found me there and restored hope. Since then we have been building memories together.

  2. Oh, how I have been touched by Him…and there are traces still in my heart leaving me hungry, hungry, hungry for more, more and more!  And my soul cries and pants like the deer.

  3. Thank you for reminding us that His touch leaves a mark that does not fade and go away.  He touched me as a 9 year old child when Jesus came to live in my heart.  He touched me again at age 12 when I had an experience with the Holy Spirit.  His anointing has been there ever since, even at times when I failed Him, he led me back again to his arms.

  4. Mari-Anna, what a great take on the word “memory”. Indeed, any experience with God gets engraved in our memories. People might not understand it, but it is something worth living and dying for.

  5.  As I often say, if He hadn’t broken into my life back in March/April, 1966, I would have continued to be damaged and damaging significantly — and dead long ago from my lifestyle.  NOW?  HALLELUJAH!!  He’s been so kind and loving and teaching and “growing” me up in Him.  I refer to nearly every activity as my “God-job” and it’s simply b/c nothing else counts.
