Awakening to the Resurrection Reality

Awakening to Resurrection Living

I do admit it right away: The resurrection of Jesus Christ sounds crazy. It’s absolutely foolish for our rational minds. It is hard to fathom that God the Father raised God the Son from the dead. But God the Spirit awakens us to believe.

Christ died for our sins in line with the scriptures, he was buried, and he rose on the third day in line with the scriptures. (1 Cor. 15:3-4, CEB)

The same way that salvation is God’s work from the start to the finish, this awakening is also God’s doing. When the Holy Spirit lives in us everything is possible. But still this spiritual life here on earth is not everything.

If we have a hope in Christ only in this life, then we deserve to be pitied more than anyone else. (1 Cor. 15:19, CEB)

Isn’t it enough that we believe that Jesus was risen and because of that we are forgiven? The resurrection of the dead sounds even crazier than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But we’d be foolish to think being spiritual in this life is all there is.

We need to be awaken to this resurrection reality: we will also be raised from the dead! Our physical bodies are like seeds that will be planted and eventually we will flourish in eternity.

It’s the same with the resurrection of the dead: a rotting body is put into the ground, but what is raised won’t ever decay. It’s degraded when it’s put into the ground, but it’s raised in glory. It’s weak when it’s put into the ground, but it’s raised in power. It’s a physical body when it’s put into the ground, but it’s raised as a spiritual body. (1 Cor. 15:42-44, CEB)

The resurrection of Jesus really is just the beginning. We are all part of God’s salvation plan. Our stories are part of God’s Big story. Just like Sarah, Jacob, Hannah, Simeon, John or Mary. We will all be raised from the dead. What a party it will be at Jesus’ feet! It’s time to get ready!

Think straight. Awaken to the holiness of life. No more playing fast and loose with resurrection facts. Ignorance of God is a luxury you can’t afford in times like these. Aren’t you embarrassed that you’ve let this kind of thing go on as long as you have? (1 Cor. 15: 34, MSG)

It is time to awaken to the holiness of life.
It is time to embrace what God is doing.
It is time to celebrate the resurrection of the dead.

We are part of God’s holy plan.
We are part of God’s family.
We are on our way Home.

Gracious God,
What a wonderful plan you have for all of us!
What an amazing love you have for all of us!
Awaken us to the holiness of life.
Awaken us to see ourselves in the salvation story.
Awaken us to live in the resurrection reality.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Resurrection of the body… I always just stopped with me, it never occurred to me to think of the church as a whole resurrected. What a glorious thing that will be, the world itself righted as God had intended it to be.
