Called to Fulfilling Lives

Called to Fulfilling Lives

Run with the horses!

“What is it that you want? Do you want an easy life? Or do you want what’s best for you? Do you want to fit in with the crowd? Or do you want to abide in Me?” Can you hear God challenging us this morning?

“So, Jeremiah [insert your own name here],
if you’re worn out in this footrace with men,

    what makes you think you can race against horses?
And if you can’t keep your wits during times of calm,
    what’s going to happen when troubles break loose
        like the Jordan in flood?”
(Jeremiah 12:5, MSG)

“How is it going to be? Are you ready to quit when things are getting little difficult? If you’re feeling weary already now, what’s going to happen when going is getting really rough? Is easy all you want? Don’t you trust Me? Don’t you want to run with the horses?”

Deep down in our hearts, I think, we all want to run with the horses but too often we let the messiness of everyday life stop us and we settle. We all want purpose and meaning but we let the broken washing machines and chickenpox drag us down. We all want to be adventuresome but we let the obstacles and difficulties keep us away from living our lives to the fullest.

We forget that life is more than routines.
We forget that everything is not on our own shoulders.
We forget that God’s plan is better than our own scheming.
We forget that God is active, dynamic, and powerful.

We are not called to live easy lives. We are called to live fulfilling lives. We are not called to shy away from responsibilities. We are to pray for strength to meet our challenges. Because with God everything is possible. With God we can have a life purpose far beyond our dreams. With God we can run with the horses.

Let us pray with the words of Augustine:

God of our life,
there are days
when the burdens we carry
chafe our shoulders and weigh us down;
when the road seems dreary and endless,
the skies grey and threatening;
when our lives have no music in them,
and our hearts are lonely,
and our souls have lost their courage.
Flood the path with light,
run our eyes to where the skies are full of promise;
tune our hearts to brave music;
give us the sense of comradeship
with heroes and saints of every age;
and so quicken our spirits
that we may be able to encourage
the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life,
to Your honor and glory.
Amen

  1. Thank you for such encouraging words.
    Just yesterday I was thinking of all the things crashing in on me and my family and yet I’m not as stressed as I used to get. There’s calm in this storm. I have peace, hope, confidence and joy because of my relationship with Christ.
    It’s nice to know I’m growing in my faith. I have a long way to go, but it’s so good to know I’m not where I used to be.
    Thanks for this reminder.

    1. Thanks so much, TC, for sharing. Isn’t it wonderful to see some progress! God is so good! And we can trust that He will keep on guiding us and teaching us along the way. The more we experience God’s goodness in the midst of storms, the easier it gets to trust Him to bless us in the future, too. May you continue to taste His goodness!
