Growing in The Light of Life

Growing in The Light of Life

God is the Light of the World and the Light of Life
As nights are getting longer and darker I am reminded of the battle of darkness and light. Thankfully we know that God has won the battle on the cross. Gratefully we realize that darkness has no say over us. Blessedly we acknowledge that in Jesus there will always be light.

The Lord is my light and my salvation.
        Should I fear anyone?
(Psalm 27:1, CEB)

Already in the Old Testament God was seen as light. God is as essential as light to us. As much as nature needs light to grow, so do we need God to be alive.

Yet we tend to take life granted and forget that we truly are dependent on God. We tend to forget that we need God to breath. But when we recognize God and our need of him, we are eternally blessed.

The Lord will be your everlasting light;
your God will be your glory. (Isaiah 60:19, CEB)

God sent his only Son to the world to get us out of darkness.
We all know that Jesus is the light of the world.
But do you know that Jesus is also the light of life?

Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12, CEB)

When we follow Jesus he exposes our sins of darkness and as we confess and repent Jesus also heals our wounds. Jesus provides light so we don’t have to stumble in the darkness anymore. And Jesus makes spiritual growth possible. Just as nature needs light in order to grow, we need Jesus – the light of life – in order to grow spiritually.

There is no way we can be spiritually alive on our own.
Without the light of life, there is no spiritual life.
Because in darkness there is no life.

There is no way we can fake abundance on our own.
Without the light of life, there is no spiritual fruit.
Because in darkness there is no growth.

Without Jesus,
there is no life.
But with Jesus,
there is life in abundance!

Gracious God,
We need you!
We need you to breath.
We need you to live and grow.
We need you to cleanse us.
We need you to guide us.
We need you in every way possible.
Shine your light on us!
Expose what needs to be exposed.
Cleanse what needs to be cleansed.
Heal what needs to be healed.
Grow what needs to be grown.
Build us up in Jesus’ name!
Amen

  1. “but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.” Psalm 139:12 NLT

I’m so glad God breaks through the darkness, that He isn’t scared of it. I’m so glad to Him, night and day are the same because He is God and He is light! Darkness looses everytime.

  2. Dear Mari-Anna, Thank you, thank you so-oo much! You may remember I wrote to you last week about my email subscription and that I visit my local library once a week to check my emails and read your blogs. I am so overly happy that I can once again get the full blog post. I am always blessed and greatly encouraged by your devotionals. I am just so happy. Thank you for doing this for me. It means more than you know! Keep growing and glowing for God. God bless you. With thanks and love, Kerrie
