Drawing Strength from God

Drawing Strength from God

Strength from the Word of God

Do you know how to draw strength from God? Do you know how to spiritually feed yourself? You see, God is not a theory. God is an indwelling power in the lives of Christians. But we do need to invite Jesus to reign in our lives. How do we do that?

1) By talking to God in prayer, telling him in our own words that we want his help, his strength, his joy. By surrendering to God, letting him know that we are ready to follow. By starting our days in God’s name and inviting him to do what he wants in our life.

Don’t panic. I’m with you.
There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.
I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you.
I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.
(Isaiah 41:10, MSG)

2) By prayerfully reading the word of God. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to open our spiritual eyes to receive God’s message to us in the Word of God. We also need to read until we feel God touching our soul. This means not letting go until we are blessed, just as Jacob wrestled with the angel until he blessed him (Genesis 32). Usually, it does not even take that many verses.

God makes his people strong.
God gives his people peace.
(Psalm 29:11, MSG)

3) By spending time with God. Not only when we are joy-filled and ready to praise him. But especially when we are not feeling well, when we are weak, exhausted and in dire need of love. Because then we can experience the power of God. Like Charles Stanley has said, “We can be tired, weary and emotionally distraught, but after spending time alone with God, we find that He injects into our bodies energy, power and strength.”

Drawing strength from God is not that difficult. It is all God’s work. But we need to get close enough to God. We need to open our hearts to God and listen. And if our life is too chaotic, noisy or busy, we need to get away with God so we can hear his voice.

There is a huge difference between starting your day after being filled with the Holy Spirit or being empty. It’s up to us to choose what we want because Jesus has already prepared the way for us. Just remember there is nothing better than God reigning supreme in our lives.

Gracious God,
Come and reign supreme in our lives!
We want to be all yours.
We want to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Teach us how to draw strength from you
and how to always abide in you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How do you draw strength from the Lord?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you draw near to God and are filled with the Holy Spirit!

  1. Knowing how to spiritually feed ourselves is so important. We can’t depend on the church or our family or friends to do it for us. They can help, and we can often eat together, but ultimately, God wants us to know how to feed ourselves and show others how to feed themselves.

This is very good, Mari-Anna. Have a blessed weekend!

  2. Everything you have written here is beautiful and true. “Pray without ceasing” is a habit I flow in and out of. Oh, that I would be so entwined with God that constant communication would be my constant habit. For, when I need His strength the most, his voice would already be there.
