Make Room for God!

Make Room for God!

Make Room for God!Are you dreaming and praying big? Or are you just trying to get by everyday? Is your soul living large? Or is your soul cramped?

I was stopped in my tracks this morning when I was reading this from Isaiah:

“Clear lots of ground for your tents!
Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big!
Use plenty of rope,
    drive the tent pegs deep.
You’re going to need lots of elbow room
    for your growing family.
You’re going to take over whole nations;
you’re going to resettle abandoned cities.
Don’t be afraid—you’re not going to be embarrassed.
Don’t hold back—you’re not going to come up short.
(Isaiah 54:2-4, MSG, emphasis added)

Maybe I am playing it safe.
Maybe I am not thinking big enough.
Maybe I am restricting God.
Maybe I don’t have enough room for God.
Lord, have mercy.

God has called us to abundant life. God has called us to live spaciously. The word salvation in Hebrew is yasha which means “to be wide, or roomy – a broad and spacious place.” Hence Yasha communicates the idea of freedom and spacious life. We are called to live in freedom, to enter this wide-open spacious life. Salvation is “liberation from confinement, constriction, and limitation.”

Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively! (2 Cor. 6: 11-13, MSG)

If we are called to live spaciously…why do we choose to live in a small way? Why do we live so cramped that there is no room for God to move? Why do we keep dwellings for ourselves far too small when God is big and powerful?

The funny thing is…we think we know what’s best for us…but only God can make much out of our lives. Only God can multiply our efforts. Only God knows what abundant life looks like.

It’s time to think big, dream big, and pray big! It’s time to stop restricting what God can do in our lives. It’s time to let go and let God! It’s time to get rid of everything and anything that hinders God’s work in and through our lives. It’s time to live abundantly.

How do we do that? By making room for God. Lots of room. And that starts by surrendering our wills to God each morning. When we dare to believe and act by faith, God will move in our lives in new ways. God wants only good things for us. God wants to give us life – abundantly. Are we open to receive it?

Gracious God,
We come to you with our cramped souls
and ask you to make a clean sweep in us!
Enable us to make lots of room for you.
Enlarge our territories.
Empower us to think big and dream big.
Move powerfully in and through us.
May only your will happen in our lives.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How is your dwelling place? Are you ready to make lots of room for God?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you live spaciously in God’s grace!

  1. Mari-Anna ~ What a wonderful post! I will definitely be praying about this> I do believe you are right, that we pray and believe too small. May God open our eyes to His bigness and the bigness He has for each one of us. God bless ~
