The Elements of a Great Life

The Elements of a Great Life

Building a great life. The elements of a great life are not what people usually think. Neither a designer hand bag nor the latest technological gadget will bring happiness. And finding a spouse or having a child are not necessary elements of a great life, either. What then?

The main element of a great life is God.
Christ is the cornerstone of a great life.
A great life is built by the Holy Spirit.

Any life can be a great life if it’s lived with God. No matter what is your profession or how little you own you can live a great life if you’re rooted in Christ. Having a great life is not about outer things, it is about abiding in Christ and living in love.

Only when our identity is built on the rock of Christ we are not lost and lonely. Only when we have an intimate relationship with God are we able to have a truly great life.

Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust. So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with
good character,
spiritual understanding,
alert discipline,
passionate patience,
reverent wonder,
warm friendliness, and
generous love,
each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can’t see what’s right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books.
(2 Peter 1:3-9, MSG, emphasis added)

If you really want to have a great life, put all your energy into becoming Christ-like. Building a Christ-like character will take a lifetime but that very process builds also a great life.

The advertisers want you to believe that you absolutely need that new spring outfit or you deserve to pamper yourself like the rest of the world. But they only want your money, they don’t care about your soul. Those things will not bring you what you are looking for. Instead you find emptiness upon emptiness.

Nothing but God can satisfy us because we were created to God’s image. The sooner we learn this, the faster we can start building a great life in God’s guidance. Complement your faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love and you can be certain you are blessed with a great life. Not according to the world but according to the Lord of all!

Gracious God,
Enable us to see that you are the cornerstone of a great life.
Help us to discern what’s necessary and what’s not,
what’s real and what’s not.
Empower us to put all our energies into becoming
more like your son Jesus Christ.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What is a great life for you?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you build a great life by God’s grace!

  1. Thank you. Earlier this week reading, another coincides again with your writing. “You have no right to wish for more, until you fully appreciate what you already have. It’s not the amount that matters, but the blessings you are able to receive from it. A slice of stale bread gives more to the beggar than a new house to the rich, Everything you have has unending blessings for you hidden inside, learn to receive them! ~ Anonymous
God is awesome & never ending. Peace & Blessings to you.
