Robust Peace of God

Robust Peace of God

robust peace
Robust peace might sound a bit odd first. That’s because we’ve learned to think of peace as of lack of something. Peace is a lack of hurry or lack of pestering people. The peace the world ever is able to give is this kind of peace: a removal from busyness or a subtraction of something from our lives. But this kind of peace is not lasting and it diminishes our lives. This kind of peace is not robust peace. This kind of peace is not what God has in mind for us.

Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness combined with our faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory. (Romans 5:1-2, CEB)

God’s peace is an outcome of grace. When we have been made right with God, we receive robust peace. This peace doesn’t take anything away from us. God’s peace adds to our lives. God wants to intensify our living and loving. God wants to give us abundant life.

We are meant to live out of God’s amazing grace and in robust peace. We are meant to have it all together with God. That’s God’s gift for us. And when we receive these abundant gifts of grace and peace we are much more likely also to live in peace with ourselves and eventually with our neighbors. Even when life gets rough.

But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:3-5, CEB)

God’s peace is everlasting peace, life-giving peace, robust and sustaining peace. When we have peace with God, we are ready to face no matter of what. Because we have hope that will not let us down.

How is this all possible? Jesus gave us access to grace and robust peace with God the Father. And the Holy Spirit keeps pouring out God’s love for us as long as we live. The triune God works beautifully for us.

In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit! (Romans 5:5; MSG)

Everything God does for us is robust. Love, grace, peace, joy, life, hope. We are to live out of God’s abundance, not relying on our meager resources. Yet we try it day by day. How would our lives change if we truly let God’s robust peace intensify our lives his way? What if we would start every day by letting God enlarge our territories? What if we would open our hearts wide open to God’s love and grace? I dare you. Do it daily. Experience life God’s way.

Gracious God,
We throw our arms and hearts wide open for you.
Come and fill us with your amazing grace.
Come and fill us with your robust peace.
Enable us to live life your way.
Surprise us with your wild grace.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

  1. I so love this! I’ve never though of peace as robust but if you think about it, it really applies because God does not do anything meager or small. Over the years I have learned to really pray to the Holy Spirit to bring me peace cemented in God love and my faith in Him. It has been an act of intention at times (which really defeats the purpose) but with time I have learned to embrace that peace that comes with truly saying “I put my life in your hands God”, and the feeling really is indescribable!
