Goodbye to Worries

Goodbye to Worries

goodbye to worries
Worrying seems natural to many of us. Worrying might even seem like the only way to go. But, let me tell you, it doesn’t have to be so. There is a way to say goodbye to worries. But it’s nothing we can make happen. But Jesus can.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. (Phil. 4:6-7, MSG)

The point is to let Jesus displace worry at the center of your life. How can we do that? By praying until praise flows. By praying until we experience peace surpassing understanding. By praying until a sense of God’s wholeness will come and settle you down. By praying until we trust everything is coming together for good. All by grace. All by God’s amazing grace.

This is a miracle, of course. But it happens. And every time it happens I am left in awe. God is amazing. Prayer works. God is at work on our behalf. Hallelujah!

I can’t thoroughly explain how prayer works. But when I pray, things seem to go smoothly. When I pray, I get uplifted no matter how hard life is at the moment. When I pray, I am empowered to face anything and everything. When I pray, things work together for good. When I pray, I do not need to worry. Because I know God is on to something. When I pray, I can even wait. If I don’t, I am beyond anxious.

Prayer is the main way to interact with God for Christians. In prayer we are connected to the source of life. In prayer we plan together with God how we are going to live our lives. In prayer we see life with the eyes of God. And when we have been embraced by God’s grace and divine peace, we are ready to live in love and peace.

So…if you want to say goodbye to worries, immerse yourself in prayer. Dwell in God regularly. And especially listen to God talking. He wants you to know he loves you, he cares for you. He has plans for you. He knows what is going on in your life. He is prepared to help you.

Don’t live your life without God. Because life with God is peaceful, joyful, and meaningful. Not because we’d be so pious or wonderful. But because of God’s abundant grace. Available freely for everyone in Christ. Until we meet him face to face.

Gracious God,
Thank you for prayer.
It’s a real privilege to interact with you freely.
Enable us to let Christ displace worries at the center of our lives.
Show us how to live a life of love,
how to live in your grace,
how to live intimately with you.
Empower us to help others to find peace in you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
