Seeing God for Who He Really Is

Seeing God for Who He Really Is

Seeing God for Who He Is
Do you know who God truly is? So often we are told that we should see the world, each other and ourselves with the eyes of God. But are we really seeing God for who he really is? What would change if our view of God would be his view of himself?

These were my thoughts last night at a Christian outdoor concert. I felt that God was inviting me to really know him for who he really is. God wants to be seen for who he really is. Not for what we guess he is. Not for what we project him to be. Not for what we hope him to be. But really, truly see him as he is.

Why is it important to have a correct view of God? Your view of God changes how you live, how you pray, how you see yourself and others around you. If you view God as an angry man, you don’t have anything to do with him. If you see God as a loving parent, you want to hang around him. If you see God as interactive and powerful, you pray without ceasing.

And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent. (John 17:3, AMP)

Knowing God is much more that knowing of him. But everything springs from knowing God. Knowing God is our life line. Knowing God is to love and to be loved. Knowing God is to have life everlasting.

But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:24, AMP)

We can’t see God as he truly is on our own. We need the help of the Holy Spirit. But this is a prayer God is more than happy to answer. He wants to be known.

Have you ever come on anything quite like this extravagant generosity of God, this deep, deep wisdom? It’s way over our heads. We’ll never figure it out.

Is there anyone around who can explain God?
Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do?
Anyone who has done him such a huge favor
    that God has to ask his advice?
Everything comes from him;
Everything happens through him;
Everything ends up in him.
Always glory! Always praise!
    Yes. Yes. Yes.
(Romans 11:33-36, MSG)

How can then know God for who he really is? How can we see God for who he really is? By abiding in Christ praising God. By praying and dwelling in him. By reading the word of God and listening to him.

But there will always be more to know of God. It’s not that God would like to hide things from us but we are not able to see and comprehend everything right now. You see, God is light and closer to the light we get, the less we are able to see. God is just too bright for our eyes, too wonderful to understand.

All in all, I am excited to ask God to show me more of who he truly is. To see him with his very own eyes. Why don’t you join me? Always glory! Always praise!

Gracious God,
We come to you with out flawed views of you.
Show us what is not true.
Show us who you really are.
Show us how to see you for who you really are.
Because you are our life, our everything.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How is your view of God? Do you see God for who he really is?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you seek God for who he really is! God will reveal himself for you!
