Walking with God

Walking with God

Walking with God
Do you walk with God? Do you know how to walk with God? You know, walking with God should be the most natural state of being for a Christian. Just as walking comes naturally to human beings. But what could walking with God entail? How would you describe walking with God?

When we are reconciled to God by grace through faith, our Christian walk begins. Walking with God means that we have an on-going communion with God, we abide in Christ and the Holy Spirit in us. Walking with God is sharing an intimate friendship with God. Walking with God is partnering with God.

The benefits of walking with God are out of this world:

Even when the way goes through
    Death Valley,
I’m not afraid
when you walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd’s crook
    makes me feel secure.
(Psalm 23:4, MSG)

Stalwart walks in step with God;
his path blazed by God, he’s happy.
If he stumbles, he’s not down for long;
God has a grip on his hand.
(Psalm 37:23-24, MSG)

We really are not alone on our journey home. God walks with us and we don’t need to be afraid of anything. If we stumble, God is right there to help us. But even that is not all.

The more we walk with God, the better we get to know God’s heart.
The better we know God’s heart, the more God can use us for his glory.

In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences. (Eph. 4:1-3, MSG, emphasis added)

Being on a journey of faith means that we are not staying put and sitting on our hands. Walking with God means we are partnering with God in his work in this world. Walking with God means developing an abiding friendship with Jesus. Walking with God means that we are making spiritual progress, we are moving along as guided by the Holy Spirit. How do we do it?

The main thing is to abide in Christ and let God do it. How do we do that? By reading Scriptures, spending time with God, praying, serving, loving, counting blessings, obeying God and following God as he leads. When we abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit produces fruit in our life. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are making spiritual progress without noticing it.

Walking with God is what Christian living is all about.
Living with God is what faith is all about.

Faith is a gift from God. Walking with God is practicing that faith, putting our lives in the hands of God. And enjoying the journey home.

Gracious God,
Thanks for inviting us to walk with you.
Thank you for always being there for us.
We want to put our lives into your hands.
Enable us to keep going even when we don’t feel like it.
Empower us to seek you and your will.
Equip us to invite others to join you on the journey.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U:How is your faith journey going? How has God helped you along the way?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you keep walking with God!

  1. Walking WITH God…your post reminds me of Amos 3:3, ” Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
We need to agree with God on which way to go. We can’t be walking with God and the world. Just doesn’t work.

    Great post.
