Ways of God Are Straight

Ways of God Are Straight

God's Ways Are Straight
Do you blame God for the messiness of your life?
Do you think it’s God’s fault that your life is complicated?
Do you think it’d be God’s responsibility to keep your life smooth?

You are not alone. But you are still mistaken. You see, ways of God are straight. Always. But sin makes our paths unnecessarily crooked. Hence it is not God who complicates our life.

What a God! His road
    stretches straight and smooth.
Every God-direction is road-tested.
    Everyone who runs toward him
Makes it.
(2 Samuel 22:31, MSG)

God’s path stretches straight and smooth. And everyone who runs toward him makes it. Our ways are crooked by sin. And everyone who runs away from God doesn’t make it. But if we turn to God, repent and give all the pieces to God, he will give us a fresh start and make our life complete.

God made my life complete
    when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I cleaned up my act,
    he gave me a fresh start.
Indeed, I’ve kept alert to God’s ways;
    I haven’t taken God for granted.
(2 Samuel 22:21-23, MSG)

How can we then live without messing up?
How can we keep our ways straight as God has planned them to be?
How can we live according to God’s plans?

The source of Christian life is Christ, not us. When we live in Christ, we are empowered by grace to keep our feet on the straight path. Christ is the source of victorious living, not us. But what a Christ we have! There’s nothing that can hold us back when we live in God’s grace.

Every day I review the ways he works,
    I try not to miss a trick.
I feel put back together,
    and I’m watching my step.
God rewrote the text of my life
    when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.
(2 Samuel 22:24-25, MSG)

Christian living is not about flexing our own moral muscle.
Christian living is about leaning on Christ.
Daily, hourly, momentarily.

That’s why we need to ask God to straighten our paths. That’s why we need to ask God to show us how to follow his true path. And he will answer with grace upon grace. God will be delighted to empower us to live according to his plan.

Let us pray with the words of David:

 Train me, God, to walk straight;
    then I’ll follow your true path.
Put me together, one heart and mind;
    then, undivided, I’ll worship in joyful fear.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you, dear Lord;
    I’ve never kept secret what you’re up to.
You’ve always been great toward me—what love!
    You snatched me from the brink of disaster!
God, these bullies have reared their heads!
    A gang of thugs is after me—
    and they don’t care a thing about you.
But you, O God, are both tender and kind,
    not easily angered, immense in love,
    and you never, never quit.
So look me in the eye and show kindness,
    give your servant the strength to go on,
    save your dear, dear child!
Make a show of how much you love me
    so the bullies who hate me will stand there slack-jawed,
As you, God, gently and powerfully
    put me back on my feet.
(Psalm 86:11-17, MSG)

Amen

Q4U: Have you experienced God’s power to straighten your crooked path? Has God put your life back together? Does God keep your path straight?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you live your life in Christ!

  1. Dear Mari-Anna
    Oh yes, everything is just our Lord Jesus in us, us in Him and we all in Pappa and the sweet Holy Spirit. I don’t think we can even begin to have faith if our Lord does not first have His faith in us! Great post, thanks.
