Being Spiritual Springs

Being spiritual springs
I’ve heard or read the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well many, many times. I’ve been mesmerized by the living water over and over again. But somehow I have never paid much attention to the latter part of the verse until now. Or that’s how it feels this time. How about you?

But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life. (John 4:14, AMP,*)

God is creating a spring of water inside of all the recipients of the living water! Amazing blessings bubbling into our lives!

Here are few observations on being spiritual springs:

1) This water will never run out. There’s plenty of it. No need to stress about not ever having enough. It’s not about us, it’s about the Spirit of God.

2) This well is a permanent arrangement. God is not going to take it back. It is a constant blessing in our lives. God has moved into our neighborhood for good.

3) This water is life-giving now and forever. This empowers us now for victorious living. And it enters us into eternal life. The Living Water creates abundant life wherever it flows.

But even this is not all. Having a spiritual spring of water inside of us is also a call to bless others. But it is really not our work at all. Because the nature of the spring is to be overflowing. Our calling is to let the spring of water keep bubbling inside of us and spilling over blessings of God.

Flowing faith is really this easy. Grace is this easy. Yet we can’t misunderstand the living water the way the Samaritan woman first did.

The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty nor have to come [continually all the way] here to draw. (John 4:15, AMP, *)

The living water does not mean that we would have easy lives. It means we still have to tend to our everyday chores. But it means there is no more an empty hole inside of us that only God can fill. It means our life has a meaning and our future is secure.

Once we see Jesus who he really is, we can concentrate on flowing God’s living water to others. The more wells we have flowing for Christ, the more people will be tasting the living water. So also they could know the Messiah. So also they could be fulfilled and utterly blessed. So also they could have a spiritual spring of water inside of them.

“Come!” say the Spirit and the Bride.
Whoever hears, echo, “Come!”
Is anyone thirsty? Come!
All who will, come and drink,
Drink freely of the Water of Life!
(Rev. 22:17, MSG)

Gracious God,
Pour out Your Living Water!
Create a spring of water in me!
May it always be overflowing!
Fill me, revive me, use me!
Lead me into abundant and eternal life!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What does it mean to you to have a spiritual spring of water inside of you?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you bask in the Living Water!

* [As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses to Biblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.]

  1. Flowing springs! YES! Endless and refreshing, ours to drink from til thirsty no more … so we can share with other exhausted pilgrims along the way.
Thank you for sharing this life-giving truth this morning!

  2. Oh, how perfect this post is for me today, Mari-Anna. I’ve begun memorizing Isaiah 55, and verse 1 is this:
“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters…”

Jesus is that perfect living water that will satisfy for eternity. Thank you for sharing these lovely thoughts. May you have a blessed week, my friend.

  3. Oh, that many could grasp that it’s not our works but Him in us flowing out! We do out of the “being”, not gain the “being” by doing! Such Amazing Love! Wonderful words and thought to contemplate!

    Blessings!

  4. The subject of ‘the well’ is spot on for me at present. Last week I was given a word about the ‘wells’ that God provides for us, & protecting them, guarding them. For ourselves – to feed on His Word and spend time alone with God, and for others – to pray for them, & nurturing each other in faith. We all need to ‘draw’ – allowing the Holy Spirit to flow through us, then pouring out for others to ‘drink’. Thank you for this confirmation
