Your Higher Purpose

Your Higher Purpose

seek God and delight in him
Are you preoccupied with concerns or stressing over ways to keep your resolutions? It’s time to remind yourself that you have a higher purpose than organizing your life. There is a deeper meaning for your life than succeeding in your pursuits (no matter how noble they are).

But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. (Matthew 6:33, AMP)

Jesus pointed out that we are not to worry about what we wear or what we eat or any other every day matters. They are important, of course. But God is greater than any human circumstances or problems; he can take care of our every need. We are to focus on the main thing.

Our greatest need is to be united with God.
Our higher purpose is to serve Jesus.

That’s why we are to steep our lives in God. And, blessedly, when we do so, also our every day matters will be taken care of.

Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. (Psalm 37:3-4, AMP)

Both the Old and the New testament talks about this. We are first to seek God and delight in him…then we will be blessed. If we run after earthly things, we will be disappointed. But if we steep our lives in God and his kingdom, we will find meaning also in everyday matters.

Our higher purpose and greatest need meets in Jesus.

Hence, keep from stressing over earthly matters. Instead, carve time for God. Keep company with Jesus and enjoy how well your life is turning out. Take great joy in the eternal things and you will be abundantly blessed.

Gracious God,
Thank you for reminding us of our greater purpose.
Thank you for uniting with us through Jesus.
We seek you, we desire you, we bless you.
Thank you for loving us so.
We leave our concerns to you.
Take care of our everyday matters too.
Empower us to depart from evil and do good.
Equip us to serve you well according to your plans.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Is it easy for you to trust God and leave worries to Jesus?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you steep your new year in God!

  1. I love this, Mari-Anna! My word for the year is JOY, and that is exactly what I am choosing to do: Delight myself in the Lord. May you be blessed in your pursuit of Him.
