One-Size-Fits-All Faith?

One-Size-Fits-All Faith?

One-size-fits-all faith?
What do you think? Is there such a thing as one-size fits-all faith? Yes and no. Yes because Jesus died for all of our sins and his blood covers everyone’s sins.

Everyone has to die once, then face the consequences. Christ’s death was also a one-time event, but it was a sacrifice that took care of sins forever. And so, when he next appears, the outcome for those eager to greet him is, precisely, salvation. (Hebrews 9:27-28, MSG,*)

There’s nothing we can add to the work of Jesus. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. That’s why one-size-fits-all is true in faith matters. Because it is all Jesus. From start to finish is it all Jesus. And Jesus covers us all.

But this one-size-fits-all approach to faith does not mean that God would give us all the same treatment no matter what. Yes, God forgives our sins when we repent and ask pardon. But God sees us individually. He knows what you need and what I need and he takes care of us according to each one of our needs and according to his personalized plan for each of us. God knows you better than you know yourself. God loves you more than you love yourself.

For the Lord your God is living among you.
    He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
(Zephaniah 3:17, NLT,*)

God’s grace is so amazing that it covers all of our sins and all of our needs. And all of our personalities and all of our gifts and failures. We can rest in him knowing he has our best interest at heart.

Also we can approach God as we are. We don’t need to fit in a one-size-fits-all way of worshiping. God has made us unique and he wants us to praise him uniquely. So…even though God’s gift of salvation is the same for everyone…the way we practice our faith is meant to be as unique as God has created us to be. And God’s love and care to us is as specialized and unique as we need.

How wonderful it is to be saved by grace just as everyone else who believes in Jesus.
How amazing it is to be cared for according to our special needs.
How good it is to be loved by God without measure.

Gracious God,
You are amazing.
You sent Jesus to save all of us.
Thank you so much.
You have created us unique
and want us to serve you uniquely.
Enable us to allow each other freedom to do so.
Thank you for taking care of us according to our needs
and according to your amazing plan to us.
Be praised forever!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What do you think? Is there such a thing as one-size-fits-all faith?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you enjoy a personal relationship with Jesus!

* [As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses to Biblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.]

I always appreciate if you help sharing the blog posts with your friends & followers. So that everyone might know the love of God, receive the grace of Christ, and live in the presence of the Holy Spirit! Thank you! Be blessed now and forever!

  1. Yes, God sees us uniquely because He chose each of us before we were born and relentlessly pursues us everyday. We are so blessed to be daughters and sons of the King. Thank you for your perspective today. Visiting you from Ann’s place and counting blessings along with you! Mary

  2. I like the both/and of it – that we’re uniquely made and redeemed by God, but in communion with each other – held together by the common grace we share. Thanks for linking up – visiting from Unforced Rhythms.

  3. Hi Mari-Anna,

Hopping over from Ann’s link up… nice to see you again. One size fits all faith, hmm? I’m processing that. He is definitely a one size fits all God, huh? He is big enough and all-encompassing enough to create and know us all. I love that he calls us to love him with all of our hearts, soul, mind and strength. Perhaps that is the size, then?

    Have a great week,
