This weekend Christians around the world are celebrating Pentecost. What does it mean? On Pentecost God sent the Holy Spirit for our aid. The Holy Spirit empowers us to experience the resurrection power daily in our lives. We just need to let the Holy Spirit work in us and through us.
With the words of David Wilkerson “When you strip it of everything else, Pentecost stands for power and life. That’s what came into the church when the Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost.” Hence if you want power and life, invite the Holy Spirit into your life daily.
Here is a collection of old Pentecost prayers for you to get into the spirit of Pentecost. I pray God will cover you with his amazing grace and the resurrection power!
O God the Holy Ghost
Who art light unto thine elect
Evermore enlighten us.
Thou who art fire of love
Evermore enkindle us.
Thou who art Lord and Giver of Life,
Evermore live in us.
Thou who bestowest sevenfold grace,
Evermore replenish us.
As the wind is thy symbol,
So forward our goings.
As the dove, so launch us heavenwards.
As water, so purify our spirits.
As a cloud, so abate our temptations.
As dew, so revive our languor.
As fire, so purge our dross
~ Christina Rossetti (AD 1830-1894)
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you invite the Holy Spirit to live and move in and through you!
