Open and Closed Doors

Open and Closed Doors

Open and closed doorsToday’s writing prompt at Five Minute Friday is ‘door’. And my immediate association was guidance. You see, I very often pray that God would close the wrong doors and open the right ones.

That’s my plea for guidance.
That’s my way to submit to Jesus.
That’s my way to trust in God’s plan for me.

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6, AMP,*)

Kate Motaung shared Jason Gray‘s great song With Every Act of Love that talks about doors in a very different way:

God put a million, million doors in the world
For His love to walk through
One of those doors is you
I said, God put a million, million doors in the world
For His love to walk through
One of those doors is you

We indeed are doors for God’s love to walk through. But are we keeping our doors closed? Or locked?

Gracious God,
Help us to open our door wide open
for your love to walk through.
Heal what needs to be healed,
Strengthen what needs to be strengthened
in order for us to be channels for your love.
Guide us, Lord, in everything,
open the right door for us and
keep the wrong ones shut.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How are you doing? Is your door wide open for God to move through you? How do you pray for guidance?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim as you dare to submit fully to Jesus!

  1. I am keeping my life open to Him. One practice I have is to spend time in silence listening for God’s voice. It is there I “hear” His voice through scripture I’ve read or am prompted to pray. It is there I am called to rest in the Gospel. Resting in Him, I am open to whatever He has for me to do that day.

  2. I remember a very important time in my life that I begged God to slam any doors shut that didn’t lead to a life thriving in him! There were so many paths and I was so confused. Thanks for the reminder of his provision in NOT letting me go the wrong way.

  3. Mari-Anna, visiting from over at 5 Minute Friday…I love your prayer for God to open our door for Him to walk through and use us and also praying to keep doors shut that need to be shut. I often have many good choices and need help limited the door God next wishes me to open and walk through!
