Brokenness Is a Blessing

Brokenness Is a Blessing

brokenness is a blessingBrokenness is something we often despise. But it brings more blessings than we can imagine. We tend to think brokenness means uselessness. But in God’s kingdom it is exactly the opposite. Brokenness is a blessing. With the words of Philip Yancey “Imperfection is the prerequisite for grace. Light only gets in through the cracks.”

Through our brokenness we realize our need for Christ. Through our brokenness God can fill us with his grace. Through our brokenness we become useful in God’s kingdom.

Brokenness was also needed to make us whole again. Jesus’ body was broken to bring healing. The blood of Christ for shed for our salvation. Brokenness is a blessing indeed.

But he was pierced for our rebellion,
    crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.
(Isaiah 53:5, NLT)

Jesus also blessed us by instituting Holy communion (or the Breaking the Bread) where the broken bread heals brokenhearted. Where the shed blood brings repentant sinners into eternal life.

The Master, Jesus, on the night of his betrayal, took bread. Having given thanks, he broke it and said,
This is my body, broken for you.
Do this to remember me.
After supper, he did the same thing with the cup:
This cup is my blood, my new covenant with you.
Each time you drink this cup, remember me.
(1 Cor. 12:23-25, MSG)

As we approach the Holy week I urge you to take some time ponder upon brokenness. Yours. And how the body of Jesus Christ was broken for you. And I hope you have time to partake in breaking the bread too.

There are so much more into brokenness that we can – at this side of heaven – understand. But this I know for sure: brokenness is a blessing. No matter what the world says.

Gracious God,
Thank you for making brokenness a blessing.
Thank you for sending your Son to be broken for us.
So we could be healed and made right with you.
Help us to see brokenness as a way to receive more grace.
May you increase and we decrease.
Be praised forever and ever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Brokenness is a blessing, isn’t it?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you embrace the broken body of Christ for your healing!

  2. Sometimes it’s difficult to view brokenness as a blessing, so these reminders are good for me to hear, Mari-Anna. May I ponder it for the blessing that it is…and be especially grateful for Christ’s brokenness to make me whole….

    1. So true. We don’t like pain or brokenness. But God blesses us through them. Sometimes those blessings are in disguise for sure. But they are there. Thanks, Lisa, for pondering these things. May Christ’s brokenness bless you richly.

  3. Hi Mari-Anna, I’m linked up right next to you over at Jennifer’s place, and you know what? I wrote about brokenness too 🙂 God is so good and gracious to heal our broken pieces and make us whole. I love how you look at the blessing of what it brings in our lives and also the realization of how the body of Christ was broken for us. Blessings to you on this Wednesday.
