Make the Lord Your Safe Haven

Make the Lord Your Safe Haven

Make the Lord your safe havenDo you have a safe haven? We all need one. I know the best there is: God Almighty. You are invited there too. God does not only provide a shelter in the midst of storms but a continual renewal place for all who desire to be his.

How great is the goodness
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world.
You hide them in the shelter of your presence,
safe from those who conspire against them.
You shelter them in your presence,
    far from accusing tongues.
(Psalm 31:19-20, NLT)

You are invited to dwell in God. You’re invited to make God your sweet spot, your safe haven, your secret place. Don’t ignore this invitation. Embrace it. And embrace God. Every day of your life.

God is our shelter. God is our refuge. God is our safe haven. How wonderful is that?

How to go about it, you ask. Make an appointment with God and keep it. Find a special, serene place for dwelling in God’s presence. Read the Word, pray your heart out, listen to God, enjoy God’s presence. Do it every day and you will be abundantly blessed. [Don’t listen to lies of the devil. You have time to meet with God. It’s the most delightful thing to dwell in the Lord. Trust me, you will never be short changed with God.]

When you’ve established a close and intimate relationship with God, you can retreat into your safe haven anywhere and anytime. Then you praise God even in the midst of storm. Then your strength will be renewed against all odds. Then you can dance in front of all your fears. Then you’re living and breathing God and his wonders.

Gracious God,
You are more awesome than we can imagine.
Yet you love us and want to interact with us.
Help us to always accept your invitation to dwell in you.
Guide us to create a sweet, secret place in you.
May you become a real safe haven to us.
Let us enjoy your loving presence in our lives,
every single day of our lives.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Do you dwell in the shelter of God’s presence? Why/why not?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you make the Lord your safe haven!

* [As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses to Biblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.].

  1. I’m not as good at dwelling in the shelter of God’s presence as I’d like to be. I let myself be too distracted by the noise around me and the noise in my own head and heart. On a side note, I also enjoy comparing Scripture in different translations, and find BibleGateway’s Mounce interlinear Greek translation a GREAT tool!

  2. Blessings, Mari-Anna!
I love tucking into the Secret Place, curled up on the Lord’s lap. I regret that I squirm a bit there, though, and need to stop asking the “why” questions and trust in the “I Am” of all things. Beautiful ministry you share here, pointing people to the Throne.
    Joy!
    Kathy
