Alive and Active

Alive and Active

Alive and ActiveI have two Eugene Peterson quotes to challenge you today if you’re getting too comfortable in your life. Sure, Jesus came to comfort the afflicted. But he also came to afflict the comfortable. God wants you to be alive and active. So here we go with the words of Eugene Peterson:

What a waste it would be to take these short, precious, eternity-charged years that we are given and squander them in cocktail chatter when we can be, like Jeremiah, vehemently human and passionate with God.

We are practiced in pleading inadequacy in order to avoid living at the best that God calls us to.

Don’t waste your life, friend. Don’t waste your life. There’s nothing wrong to have fun but if that’s all you do, you’re living an empty life. Don’t ignore God and his plans for you. He wants you to be alive and active.

Only when you find your identity in Christ and live with God, you are truly alive. Only when you dare to be all that God called you to be, you find purpose and meaning for your life.

So quit making excuses for not living with God and for God. Stop pleading inadequacy in order to do what you want. God provides everything you need. Just ask and experience the power of grace.

Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], 16 making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil.17 Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is. (Eph. 5:15-17, AMP)

Your life is not about you. It’s about letting God make you all you can be. It’s about seeing what God can do through your surrendered life. Your life is about becoming vehemently human and passionate with God.

Gracious God,
Forgive me for making excuses for staying away from you.
Forgive me for pleading inadequacy in order to avoid doing
what you’ve called me to do.
Lord, I want to be all you’ve created me to be.
Invade me. Abide in me. Work in and through me.
Just don’t let me waste my life.
Make me alive and active,
make me passionate about you.
Do what you want with me,
I am all yours.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Are you alive and active?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you surrender your life to God and embrace what he is doing in your life!
