Do you have your own secret world of prayer? Good for you. If you don’t, ask God to show you what it means and how it works. It’s meant for every Christian. It is the ultimate place of rest and renewal. Life is tough; believe me, you need it.
Lord, You have been our dwelling place [our refuge, our sanctuary, our stability] in all generations. (Psalm 90:1, AMP)
God is always waiting for us. Prayer is not a religious duty but a way to communicate with God. With the words of D.A. Carson “Effective prayer is the fruit of a relationship with God, not a technique for acquiring blessings.” Prayer is a way to spend time with God and embrace what God is doing in this world.
Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. (Matthew 6:6, MSG)
When we learn to dwell in our secret world of prayer, we slowly learn to know the heart of God and his will for us. It does not happen fast. It takes time to get to know God, to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus. We need to learn to dwell in Christ and abide in the Holy Spirit. The secret world of prayer needs to become our home.
But when that happens, we are spiritually fruitful. Bob Sorge has said “Nothing is more dangerous to the kingdom of darkness than a man or woman who has found the unceasing wellspring of heaven’s life.” And that’s what the secret world of prayer truly is. It is the entrance to the unceasing wellspring of heaven’s life.
Thank you for giving us the gift of prayer.
Thank you for inviting us to abide in you.
Ignite in us the true spirit of prayer.
Give us an unquenchable desire for prayer.
Take away anything that hinders our time with you.
Help us to increase the time in the secret world of prayer.
We want to know you, Lord.
Speak to us, Lord.
In Jesus’ name,
