The Christmas Story Is Not Just Any Story

The Christmas Story Is Not Just Any Story

the-christmas-storyHow did you react to the reading of the Christmas story from Luke 2 this year? Isn’t it amazing how it captures our hearts every time we hear it? Why does it move us year after year? You know, most stories do get boring. But the Christmas story is not just any story.

The Christmas story is not just any story

We are all familiar with the story line yet we never get tired of hearing the Christmas story. Because it is not just any story. It tells us how God came to be with us. Jesus left the glory to be born as a helpless baby. He left the perfect harmony to struggle and suffer for us in this chaotic world. All the contrasts in the story magnifies the gift. The Christmas story holds the secret of love. That’s why it captures me every time I hear it. It really is not just any story. This story gives life upon life; it awakes our souls to God.

It gets more amazing every year

Every year I am more in awe of God’s amazing gift. Every time I read the Christmas story I become more humble and thankful. The more we think of what Jesus gave up (imperishability, immortality, incorruptibility etc.), the more astonishing we find God’s salvation plan. The Christmas story is more powerful than it looks at the first glimpse. It brings joy, love and peace in ways that lifts up our burdens and soothes our troubled minds. God is with us. All is well. Now and forever. Hallelujah.

Gracious God,
Thank you for the Christmas story,
thank you that it’s not just any story.
Let it wash over us with its soothing power.
Be reborn in our hearts, Lord.
May we have Christmas every day of our lives.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
