The Reason of the Season

The Reason of the Season

The reason of the seasonAs we are fast approaching Christmas I wanted to share with you this amazing video of the first Christmas. The reason of the season is not family nor friends. It’s not gifts, it’s not food, it’s not having jolly good time. They’re all most wonderful blessings but they’re nothing compared to the birth of Christ. Because that changed history. That changed my life and yours if you let it happen.

Hallelujah –  Written by Leonard Cohen & performed by Cloverton. Video from The Bible Miniseries – created & produced by Roma Downey & Mark Burnett.

The video beautifully shares the Christmas story but, as we know, the story does not end there. Jesus came so we could live. And not just for little while here on earth but eternally with God. Hence there’s a lot to celebrate.

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. (John 3:16-18, MSG)

God loved us so much that he sent his only son into the world as a mere human to carry our sins on the cross so we could be made right with him. Astonishing. Amazing. Awesome. The reason of the season is all three yet the adjectives do not explain it all. God’s love for us is always more than we can imagine.

Gracious God,
Your love for us is so much more than we can understand.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
for sending Jesus to save us.
Help us to love you back with everything we’ve got.
Show us how to celebrate the birth of Christ with reverent awe.
Be praised forever and ever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Does your Christmas reflect the reason of the season?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you embrace the reason of the season!
