Everything but God Is Dust

Everything but God Is Dust

Everything but God is dustIt’s Ash Wednesday. It reminds us that we were made from dust, and to dust we will return. These are wise words from the beginning of Genesis (3:19). Yes, we are mortal. We need to count our days right. But also we need to pay attention to what we give our time and energy. Everything but God is dust. Hence everything but love is dust.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20, NIV)

Everything but God is dust

If we do remember that everything but love is dust, we are on the right track. Then we don’t hoard material treasures that won’t last and won’t bring happiness anyway. Also, if we do remember that everything but God is dust, our focus will be on the eternal things. Then, maybe, we also dare to declare like the psalmist “you’re all I want, God”.

Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
    and my portion forever.
(Psalm 73:25-26, NIV)

Everything but love is dust; everything but God is dust. May this evoke new questions in our hearts this lenten season and may God guide us with the answers to those questions.

Gracious God,
Everything but you is dust.
Help us to remember that we are dust.
Give us wisdom to live wisely, Lord.
Help us to use our lives to serve you.
Make every day count,
show us how to live from the eternal perspective.
We want to desire nothing but you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: What do you think? Is everything but God is dust?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you let God show you how to live your life to the max!
