Discover More of God

Discover More of God

Discover more of God - flowingfaith.comWould you like to discover more of God? Good for you. My number one recommendation for you is to spend more time with God and he will reveal more of himself to you. The more time you spend with God, the more you get to know him. Getting to discover more of God firsthand is always the best approach. He wants to be found.

I love all who love me.
Those who search will surely find me.
(Proverbs 8:17, NLT,*)

Discover more of God

When you start spending more time with God, you fast discover God’s love for you is way more than you can imagine. And it’s, as J.I Packer points out, it’s utterly realistic kind of love. “This is momentous knowledge. There is unspeakable comfort—the sort of comfort that energizes, be it said, not enervates – in knowing that God is constantly taking knowledge of me in love and watching over me for my good. There is tremendous relief in knowing His love to me is utterly realistic, based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst about me, so that no discovery can disillusion him about me, in the way I am so often disillusioned about myself, and quench his determination to bless me.” God knows you inside out and still, he loves you with his everlasting love. What an awesome God!

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8, NLT,*)

Embrace God and his love

God’s love for you is a fact whether you believe it or not. The Bible tells us so. Your unbelief does not make it untrue or your doubts do not stop God from loving you. God loves because he is love and he loves to love you. So it’s time for you to accept it and embrace it. This is a way to discover more of God and who he really is.

For the Lord your God is living among you.
    He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
(Zephaniah 3:17, NLT;*)

Revel in God’s love

Then rejoice in God’s amazing love. Recognize it for what it is: God’s invitation to live with him. He is drawing you near to him. This is your chance to discover more of God, intimately and personally. This divine relationship God wants to have with you will bless your socks off. Probably, in a way that you don’t expect. God and his love are more than we can imagine. But so are also his ways to reach out to us. He knows us so well that he knows how to speak to each of us. Let’s hear him out. And keep on rejoicing in his love and care while we discover more of him.

Gracious God,
You are more than we can ever understand.
We praise you for being God Almighty,
not a god in a box.
Teach us who you are,
let us discover more of you
each time we interact with you.
Draw us to you,
let our times together become so precious
that we can’t do without.
Be praised for your loving kindness.
Thanks for loving us as we are
and yet not leaving us as you found us.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen

  1. Great post! I loved this, Mari-Anna.

My way of discovering God…and I would not recommend it…is the development of a very painful and very fatal illness.

I didn’t discover God through despair, through ‘leaning into Him’…it came from a determination to bear witness to the good that remains in life, even in the hard circumstances.

God is in the good. He hasn’t abandoned me. Illness is part of a fallen world, but with His help, I can rise.

    1. Great to see you, Andrew. Thank you for your kind words and sharing your powerful testimony. God is indeed good all the time. Not only when things go smoothly but also, especially, when things go wrong. Rest assured that God is with you in your pain and because of Christ there are better things ahead. Abundant blessings to you and yours!
