Overcoming Grace

Overcoming Grace

Overcoming grace - flowingfaith.comIt seems we all have something to overcome. Sometimes I feel life is about overcoming. If you try to do it on your own, you don’t have much luck. If you do it with some others, you might succeed. Like Vesta Kelly has said ‘Snowflakes are one of nature’s most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together.’ But even that approach is lacking at the end. The only thing that enables us to truly overcome is God and his empowering grace.

But by the [remarkable] grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not without effect. In fact, I worked harder than all of the apostles, though it was not I, but the grace of God [His unmerited favor and blessing which was] with me. (1 Cor. 15:10, AMP)

Overcoming Grace

God’s grace brings us salvation. But that’s not the end of the story. God also empowers us with his overcoming grace. Hence, we are able to overcome. We are not alone or helpless in our battles. (If you’re looking for practical steps to overcome, read this post about how to overcome temptations).

Blessed [happy, spiritually prosperous, favored by God] is the man who is steadfast under trial and perseveres when tempted; for when he has passed the test and been approved, he will receive the [victor’s] crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12, AMP)

Life is not easy. Sometimes it feels like an obstacle course. The main thing to make life more bearable is to give our struggles to Jesus. Overcoming grace is true, it works. It is God in us and through us. Overcoming grace is a beautiful thing.

Gracious God,
You are so good to us.
We lack nothing
because you provide everything we need.
Pour out grace upon grace, Lord.
Empower us to overcome.
Enable us to live in your joy.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U:
Are you familiar with overcoming grace?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you live in grace and overcome with grace!

* [As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses toBiblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.].

  1. Mari-Anna, you are so right. LIfe is and obstacle course, but we can overcome in Christ. I like the way you linked the verses and even one of your own post (which I also read). Thanks!

    1. Yeah. The world yells us to make it on your own so it is so hard to hear God’s gentle whisper to come to him and let him do it for us. Why is grace so hard? Yet it is the easiest, sweetest thing ever. Thanks, Andrew, for visiting and commenting. I loved that quote too. Seems that everything real, honest and true in life is the exact opposite of the flashy world. Blessings to you, brother. God is good, all the time.

I so agree with your view of overcoming grace… it’s all Jesus and joining Him in what pleases Him to accomplish as we keep our eyes focused on Him.
I too love to look at various translations to add understanding and richness to Scriptures.

May God richly bless you to overcome by His grace and favor on your life!
