The First Aid Kit for Weary Pilgrims

the first aid kit for weary pilgrimsOften I tell people to collect Bible verses to quickly remind them of God’s goodness in a time of need. Because when you’re feeling distressed you don’t have much energy to dig deep. Then it’s a huge blessing to have a first aid kit for weary pilgrims handy. Your own collection of special Bible verses that you know work time after time. Make sticky notes, type notes on your smartphone, collect them in a beautiful box or memorize them.  Whatever you do, make sure you have some available whenever you feel needy. Because nothing but the Word of God can remind you of what’s true and truly important. Here are seven little lesser-known ‘pick me up’ Bible verses from my first aid kit for weary pilgrims. [What do you think? What would you add?]

The First Aid Kit for Weary Pilgrims

  1. But whoever loves God is known by God (1 Cor. 8:3, NIV).

    You are known by God. He knows what is going on in your life, you don’t have to stress about anything. As a child of God, you are his beloved. Hence, all is well. Relax.

  2. I know that You can do all things,
    And that no thought or purpose of Yours can be restrained  (Job 42:2, AMP).

    Nothing can stop God’s will from happening. So rest assured, all is well. God is in control. And he can do all things.
  3. ‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you;
    Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
    I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you;
    I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’ (Isaiah 41:10, AMP)

    This is one of the 365 Bible verses stating “do not be afraid”. Hence being not afraid is an important message to all of us. There’s nothing to fear for God is with you. And he is helping you along the way with his grace and power.

  4. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me (Psalm 3:5, NIV).

    God sustains you even as I sleep. It’s not about you and your strength. Instead, it’s about God and his strength. You can rest in him all the days and nights of your life.
  5. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises (Romans 15:13, AMP).

    Our God is the God of hope. And he can fill you with joy and peace so that you can face whatever you are dealing with. You can trust in His promises and live hopefully and joyfully in every situation.
  6. The Lord will keep you from all harm—
        he will watch over your life;
    the Lord will watch over your coming and going
        both now and forevermore.
    (Psalm 121:7-8, NIV)

    No matter where you are in the world or what is going on in your life, you can be certain that God is guarding your life. He is at work behind the scenes and you will be taken care of.

  7. Though the mountains be shaken
        and the hills be removed,
    yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
        nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
        says theLord, who has compassion on you.
    (
    Isaiah 54:10, NIV)

    God Almighty has compassion
    on you. And nothing can separate you from his love and grace. The world might go crazy but you are fine because God’s love for you will not be shaken. You are his and nothing will change that.

Hope these verses get you going today. Meditate on them and put them to use. Let your heart rejoice in every situation. God loves you very much. More than you can ever know. Bask in his love and care.

Let us pray

Gracious God,
You are amazing.
First, you provide us salvation
and then you want to make sure that
we have everything we need
to make it home to you.
Thank you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
