Why Friday the 13th Has Nothing on Christians
I find it interesting that even some Christians live in fear of Friday the 13th and other superstitions. Like Christ’s victory over death and evil would not mean anything. Yes, I know there are evil forces in the world. But our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has won the battle already. We are on the victor’s side. Also on Friday the 13th.
So what are we going to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created. (Romans 8:31, 38-39, CEB)
Friday the 13th has nothing on Christians
It’s been only two weeks from Easter and people are forgetting resurrection power. It’s still valid. And it’s valid every single day, also on Friday the 13th. Nothing can separate us from God’s love and power. We are safe in God. All the time. No matter where we are or what day it is. We should celebrate it more and not take it granted or forget about it.
What would you do differently if you truly believed Christ has won all the forces in the world? That’s Christian freedom, that’s walking with Jesus the Victor. If it’s hard for you to let go of your superstitious beliefs, ask God to help. Ask God to fill you with his empowering grace so there’s no room for superstition anymore. Because you can’t be superstitious and a Christian at the same time. They are mutually exclusive. So let go of your fears, leave them at the foot of the cross, and live victoriously in Jesus instead. So from here on out Fridays the 13th are days to celebrate your freedom in Christ.
Gracious God,
Forgive us for succumbing to fear of superstitions.
Take away all our insecurities and doubts.
Show us what it means to embrace freedom in Christ.
Enable us to celebrate resurrection power every day,
especially on days like Fridays the 13th
so that others can see what it means to be free in Christ.
Thank you for breaking the chains of evil in our lives.
Protect us, bless us, equip us for your service.

Friday the 13th is just a day among others to me. I couldn’t agree more with you about how superstition is sort of underestimating Christ’s atonement on the cross. In the same way, I almost see red when Christian people are afraid of demons attacking them from books or tv shows. I call these “ghost stories disguised as Christianity”. We are SAFE.

Mari-Anna-I was a bit superstitious as a child and teen. As I began walking with the Lord, I was convicted of that and am thankful the Lord has lifted the burden of feeling like I needed to give recognition to things that are not worthy like cracks in sidewalks and black cats! He’s lifted so many other burdens too…so thankful!

I’ve never been superstitious – always thought it was funny (or, at least, fun and games…) until one married into our family who was very serious about superstitions. I am so grateful for my freedom in Christ…and, yes, that we can continue to celebrate the resurrection (and the power it brings) every day!!
