God Guards Us

God Guards Us

God guards usSummer is a time of exploration and it is indeed good for us to get out of our routines. Also, when we are not in our comfort zone, we might be more likely to notice God’s movement in our lives. This happened to me this summer. I’ve always believed in guardian angels, God’s protection, and guidance so in that sense this was not a surprise for me. But these little experiences left me in awe of God anyway. God guards us. How wonderful is that?

If you make theLord your refuge,
    if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
    no plague will come near your home.
For he will order his angels
    to protect you wherever you go.
(Psalm 91:9-11, NLT)

So what were my experiences that reinforced this belief in me? The first one happened when I was returning from visiting my godmother and realized I needed to fill up my gas tank in order to get home. It was a hot day and when I finally found a gas station, I was ready to be done with it in order to get home quickly. Often when we rush things we don’t pay that much attention but somehow I felt something wasn’t right and I needed to pay attention. Then I realized there was surprisingly only one nozzle. I had almost filled up my car with diesel. Such a relief! I was so thankful that I had been guarded against fueling up the car with diesel instead of gasoline. [And I had always wondered how that happens to people. Now I know. Easily when you don’t pay attention.]

God guards us

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
    I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
    I will be with them in trouble.
    I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life
    and give them my salvation.”
(Psalm 91:14-16, NLT)

The second experience happened just a few days ago when I was about to purchase a plane ticket online. I was so excited that I had found a good deal even though it was hand luggage only and no possibility to change the dates later. All the info was typed in and I was about to push the purchase button. But then something told me to check the details once more. And I did. Thankfully. Somehow I had accidentally put wrong dates in. Blessedly, I had been once again guarded against making an expensive mistake.

I think God moves in our lives much more than we realize. Too often we are too busy to notice or too forgetful to remember the good God has done for us. These small events have highlighted God’s protection for me. Psalm 91 has been one of my favorite psalms since my youth. It has given me both boldness to venture into the world and calmness to wait on the Lord quietly. God loves us, God guards us, and God blesses us. So let’s praise the Lord!

Let us pray

Gracious God,
Thank you for protecting and guiding us.
Open our spiritual eyes to see your movements around us.
Let us feel your love and care for us.
Make us bold for you.
Be praised forever and ever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: God guards you – do you believe it? Have you experienced God’s protection and guidance? Share your story!

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you let God guard and guide you!

  1. I have missed everything from fires to tornadoes, and even diesel. Angels are definitely watching and we can be thankful for protection from what don’t even know. I like Bible Hub, and Gateway.
