No Add-Ons to Faith

No Add-Ons to Faith

turn back to GodAs Western culture becomes increasingly more secular, we are facing the same problems as the Israelites in the Old Testament. My heart has been breaking for quite some time now for Christians who start to dabble with angels cards, crystals, manifesting, you name it. They look for anywhere but Christ to get answers or fulfillment for their yearnings. Why do they do that? Because they are not familiar with the power of God or the fire of the Holy Spirit. Somehow they don’t know real Christianity at all. Christian faith is not boring. It does not need any add-ons to inspire. We just need to dig deeper into the grace of God and dive further into the realms of the Holy Spirit.

[Live] as obedient children [of God]; do not be conformed to the evil desires which governed you in your ignorance [before you knew the requirements and transforming power of the good news regarding salvation]. But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage]; because it is written, “You shall be holy (set apart), for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:14-16, AMP)

No add-ons to faith needed

God is still the same God as thousands of years ago. He still wants purity and holiness. And holiness in Hebrew means being set apart. We are not to live as the world lives; we are to be holy as our God is holy. And that does not happen if we dabble in sin every chance we get. If this is you (or someone who you know) and you want to turn back to God, start with prayer. We all need God’s power, his grace, to enable us to walk away from harmful and distracting things. We don’t need any add-ons to faith. Christ is more than enough.

You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.” So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet. (James 4:4-10, MSG)

Christ provides everything you ever need

We are invited to know Christ and his power more intimately. I dare to say Christ provides everything you ever need. If you want to experience God’s presence more tangibly, ask for it. And if you’re interested in more peace, ask for it. If you yearn after manifestations of the Holy Spirit, ask for them. The world is not able to compete with the King of Kings. We just need to let him be all that in our lives. God is not pushy, he wants to be invited. So let’s do that right now.

Our Heavenly Father,
Forgive us for dabbling with sin and looking for excitement and meaning in wrong places.
Come, Lord Jesus, into our hearts.
We want to know you more, better, deeper.
Come, Holy Spirit, and fill every nook and cranny with your Spirit.
Draw us to you, Lord.
Fill us so completely with your power, your grace, your Spirit,
that turning away from wrong gods and idols becomes a joy.
Pour out grace upon grace upon grace on us,
so that we can become holy like you.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen

Q4U: Have you (or someone you know) struggled with New Age spirituality/other false gods/add-ons to faith? How did you (or helped someone to) turn back to God?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you seek all that you need in God and not in wrong places.
