Searching for Significance

Searching for Significance

Have you been searching for significance all your life and have still not found it? Let’s remedy that right now. You see, the problem might be that you’ve been searching for significance in the wrong places.

You might seek recognition by doing everything you can think of – and then some – yet you never get it. Don’t get me wrong, you might be a world-known scientist or an all-star athlete, yet you might still be searching for significance. Because the accolades of the world do not ultimately satisfy or give you what you truly need. Hence we keep on searching for significance.

Searching for signifigance

Significance is not elusive or hard to find if we look at the right place. When we look up to God, we find out worth. It’s something so special that no one can take it away from us. Not even when you’re bed-ridden and can’t contribute a thing. You see, our significance is in being a child of God. We have it even when we are powerless.

See what an incredible quality of love the Father has shown to us, that we would [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! (1 John 3:1, AMP)

There’s no human being without significance in God’s eyes. When we truly embrace this truth, searching for significance can end. We can crawl into Father’s arms and find everything we need: love, acceptance, forgiveness, peace, joy, and, yes, significance.

Finding our worth

Significance and worth are great but God’s love and care for us do not end there. He has promised to take care of his children until the end of the world.

But now, God’s Message,
the God who made you in the first place, Jacob,
the One who got you started, Israel:
“Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you.
I’ve called your name. You’re mine.
When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down.
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
it won’t be a dead end—
Because I am God, your personal God,
The Holy of Israel, your Savior.
I paid a huge price for you:
all of Egypt, with rich Cush and Seba thrown in!
That’s how much you mean to me!
That’s how much I love you!

I’d sell off the whole world to get you back,
trade the creation just for you.

(Isaiah 43:1-4, MSG, emphasis added)

We have an awesome God. In Him, we find our significance and everything else we are craving for. Nothing or no one else can do that. So let’s stop searching for significance anywhere but in God. Let’s let him fill us with his endless love and empowering grace. Again and again. And when we continually live in love and grace, there will be miracles in and through our lives. Eventually, we even feel significant.

Let us pray

Gracious God,
Be praised for loving us without measure,
giving us significance as your children.
Help us to embrace our worth in you
and give the same respect to every human being.
We love you, Lord.
Saturate us with your love and grace
so we could make a difference in this world.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Are you still searching for significance? Or have you found it in Jesus? What has helped you to embrace it?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you find your worth in Jesus!
