The Eternal Perspective

The Eternal Perspective

the eternal perspective

How do you feel about the events of Good Friday? They’d be much harder to take if we did not know what happens next, right? Because we know the death of Jesus is not the end, we can take it. This is how the eternal perspective works. It brings life in the midst of death.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit. (1 Peter 3:18, ESV,*)

When we look at the things from God’s perspective, we see the light. And if we don’t, we see despair. And this is true also in the events of our own life too. If we look at the chaos with our knowledge, everything looks irrational. But when we look at things from the eternal perspective, we can soon see what things matter and which ones are just full of dust.

The Eternal Perspective

The events of Good Friday were horrific for sure. But from the eternal perspective, we can see how much good comes out of it. Because Jesus endured, we are blessed. Because Jesus took our sins and burdens and carried them to the cross, we can be forgiven and freed to live in God’s grace. When we look at the cross from the eternal perspective, it becomes a tree of life.

He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
By his wounds
    you are healed.

(1 Peter 2:24, NLT,*)

And let’s also look at ourselves from the eternal perspective. Then we realize we are God’s beloved children. God loves us so much that he let his only Son die for us. And we can be certain that there is nothing God will not do to help us on our way home to him. It leaves me in awe. Good Friday leaves me in awe.

God prepared salvation for us so we could just receive it by grace through faith in Jesus. It is done, it is finished. So we cry: “Thank you, Jesus! We receive your love and adore you for it.”

Gracious God,
Your love is way more than we can imagine.
But we so need it,
we also need Jesus and grace upon grace.
We praise you for providing us the way back to you.
Thank you for saving us.
We accept your love and grace with deepest gratitude.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen

Q4U: How do you feel about Good Friday? Does the eternal perspective help?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you embrace Christ and what he has done for you!

*[As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses to Biblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.]
