Listening to the Heartbeat of God

Listening to the Heartbeat of God

Listening to the Heartbeat of God

The most life-giving habit of mine is to sit in God’s presence in the morning. You could call it prayer but then you’d have to use the word in the broadest sense of the word. It also includes Bible-reading, some meditation on the Word, listening to the heartbeat of God, and breathing in the Holy Spirit

In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice;
In the morning I will prepare [a prayer and a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart].

(Psalm 5:3, AMP)

Without my moments with God, I would forget what’s real and what’s not. I would buy the lies of the world. But each time I hear the heartbeat of God, I am reminded of whose I am. Just like that, I am reminded of the spiritual realm that I can’t see but nonetheless exists.

I love the Lord, because He hears [and continues to hear]
My voice and my supplications (my pleas, my cries, my specific needs).
Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call on Him as long as I live.

(Psalm 116:1-2, AMP)

Listening to the Heartbeat of God

It’s not me but the Holy Spirit doing the uplifting. I just need to show up, surrender, and spend some time with God. When I do that, I start hearing the heartbeat of God. I start believing anew. And then I’m ready to face the day. Because I won’t be alone, God is with me, and that makes all the difference. I am also reminded that all the promises of God are valid also today and each and every one of them are meant for me too. So I am empowered to live and love like Jesus. And that’s what Christian living is all about.

So stop rushing around and start listening to the heartbeat of God. It’s the most beautiful sound in the world. And it changes us. For the better.

Gracious God,
Thank you for wanting us close by
so we could hear your heartbeat.
Cure our spiritual amnesia each morning.
Help us to live each and every day with your power and grace
so we could become people after your own heart.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How do you listen to the heartbeat of God?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you seek God every morning (and noon and night)!
