Live in Jesus’ Name

Live in Jesus’ Name

Live in Jesus' name!

I often say “let’s start with prayer because it’s the best way to start anything”. I do mean it and I do practice it. Why you ask. Because prayers in Jesus’ name are powerful. So start always with prayer, especially if you are a recent graduate or otherwise starting a new phase in your life. And continue to live in Jesus’ name.

Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Col. 3:17, AMP,*)

But how do we pray in Jesus’ name? you ask. First of all, you need to see that praying in Jesus’ name is not done just by uttering the words “In Jesus’ name” at the end of your prayers. The whole prayer needs to be in Jesus’ name and according to his will. And the same goes for your whole life.

Live in Jesus’ name…

How do we then live in Jesus’ name? Let’s see. As you pray and/or map out your life, do it for God’s glory, not for your own recognition. Think about this for a minute because this changes everything. When your goal is to bring glory to God, your own selfish wishes and desires fade away and your way of looking at things change.

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. (Matthew 6:33, AMP,*)

When you submit all your prayer requests with a surrendered heart, recognizing God’s holiness, you’re truly praying in Jesus’ name. And when you approach life-planning knowing you need God’s infinite wisdom to guide and empower you, you’re truly living in Jesus’ name.

…and be blessed

The amazing thing about a surrendered heart is that it will receive everything needed to accomplish the things God has prepared for you to do. So relax. When you pray and live in Jesus’ name, you will be truly blessed.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph. 2:10, NIV,*)

So whenever you’re starting a new chapter in your life, don’t panic. Instead, pray in Jesus’ name and wait for God to open the right doors for you. And when you continue to pray and live in Jesus’ name, your life will be full of purpose and meaning. And blessings.

Gracious God,
You’re more than we can even imagine.
Thank you for inviting us to live and pray in Jesus’ name.
Show us how to do that every day of our lives.
We know you know what’s best for us
so we surrender ourselves to you, Holy One.
May thy will be done in us, through us, for us.
Guide us into the unknown, Lord.
Open up the right doors, close the wrong ones.
May we bring glory to you with our lives.
In Jesus’ name we live, move, and pray,
Amen

Q4U: Do you live in the name of Jesus? How has it changed your life?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you surrender your life to Jesus and bring glory to God with everything you do.

*[As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses to Biblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.]
