We Cannot Pray Enough

We Cannot Pray Enough

we cannot pray enough

We can’t value prayer enough and we cannot pray enough. Prayer is a marvelous gift of God and meant to put in good use. And often. All the time, actually. We all know prayer is our way of communication with God Almighty. Why do we then neglect it? It does not make sense, does it? Especially because we can change the world one prayer at a time.

Paul Minner has said “Prayer is a moment of incarnation – God with us. God involved in the details of my life.” Why wouldn’t we want that? The benevolence of the universe wants to bless us, why would we refuse? Why would we keep away?

With the words of E.M. Bounds: “Prayer should not be regarded as a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty.”

Yes, we are called to pray but it is a delight that always leaves us better than we were. Our enemy tries to keep us from praying because he knows the power of prayer. We should too. And never stop praying.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (Eph. 6:18, NLT)

Prayer should become our spiritual breathing system. And maybe then we would start to grasp a bit how valuable prayer really is. Because we can change the world by praying. Hence we cannot pray enough. There’s no such thing than praying too much.

We cannot pray enough

R.T. Kendall declares “I cannot imagine a greater motivation to pray than that God enjoys having me in His presence. He enjoys my company. He delights in listening to me! He doesn’t get bored with my repeated requests. He doesn’t moralize me if I get it wrong in what I ask for. He doesn’t laugh at me if I put out silly, even impertinent, requests. He never makes me feel stupid. There is no rejection, only total acceptance.”

Isn’t God amazing? We are loved and accepted, period. God enjoys us and our company. Through prayer, God can guide us and bless us. Why on earth would we keep away, right? Yet we still do. We do not pray nearly enough.

Prayer welcomes God into the affairs of the world and it changes it and its inhabitants. That’s why we don’t pray enough. So we do not have any excuses for neglecting prayer because it is the sweetest experience on earth. It blesses us instantly with God’s presence and it prepares things for the future. We can’t miss that. So let us pray without ceasing.

Gracious God,
Thank you for loving us and giving us the gift of prayer.
Forgive us for not using it nearly enough.
Help us to see prayer as a calling to make a difference
not just in our own lives but in the affairs of the world.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire us to pray without ceasing.
Help us to pray the way for you to come.
May thy will be done on earth as in heaven.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
